Big winter storm making its way east. Southern Kansas, Oklahoma, Northern Texas, Arkansas, Southern Missouri, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi either already got hammered or will get hammered tonight and tomorrow. Then headed further east this weekend.
My town? We are supposed to get 6-8" of snow. Radar says it is coming down right now, but I haven’t seen any yet. Yeech. We are not really equipped for this much snow.
We’re supposed to start seeing snow (or ice  ) late Friday night. They’re saying 3-5". I went shopping today and we’re all stocked up on junk food, firewood, movies and knitting supplies. I’m hoping for a nice, cozy weekend indoors and school to be open on Monday.
We are in the path, and got hit hard by the blizzard in December/January, there are still a few piles of snow that haven’t melted from that (but just a few and they are small now).
So far they are predicting only an inch or two but lots of ice for us, and already talking about closing schools tomorrow- even though we have seen only the cold temps tonight and no snow as of yet.
It will be bad if we get anything much because our schools have already used all their “built in” snow days. Any more and they will have to come from Spring Break or delay the summer break…
And the last storm caused my roof to leak (badly!). I was promised a repair this week, but even though the snow melted, it was still too muddy and wet to attempt, so the management said “next week for sure”. So one of my daughters has all her stuff moved into a hallway (it is her room that leaks) and any more snowfall will mean further delays of the repairs and longer that she won’t have a proper room.
Jeez, what a disappointment (sort of?). Nothing has fallen yet. It is very cold and windy and just plain miserable outside, but no snow, ice, or sleet.
Same here. I just noticed that a little tiny bit of snow is falling, but it is so fine that I have to squint to see it. That just started with the hour I believe (at least it wasn’t doing anything but being cold when I was walking the dog this morning).
I just hope it stays this way and the predictions fall flat.
Where are you all? They’ve increased the predictions here to 7-10". We’re supposed to start seeing something at midnight tonight and get heavy snow all morning on Saturday, then continuing light into the evening. I hope we at least get a few inches, because the kids are really excited.
My sympathies to all the folks in the path of this storm - it looks like its gonna hit the states that don’t have the best snow removal equipment/supplies.
If we all started thinking happy thoughts about spring do you suppose it would help at all?
Yeah, what’s a weather report without the location?
West of Little Rock, AR here. Schools closed, only necessary state government employees at work.
The road isn’t icy yet. Sleet on the ground and some rain, still above freezing. Cold tonight and tomorrow, but will get above freezing Saturday and Sunday.
ha ha - we had a beautiful morning - not one cloud, brilliant blue sky, and sunshine. The temperature has started to drop now and the clouds have rolled in. It smells like snow.
Meanwhile, in the frozen tundras of southern Ontario there is virtually no snow, and while some has fallen, temperatures haven’t been cold enough to keep it there for any significant length of time.
I do expect this role reversal won’t hold though, and fully expect February to get its own back. But at least spring isn’t too far off now.
I live in the Bootheel of Missouri. About 40 miles from 4 different states (TN, KY, IL, and AR). It just started to snow here in the last 30 minutes. Enough to say there is some accumulation, but not enough to measure. Area schools are closing around noon.
Well, at least got my groceries and supplies. cooking some chili this afternoon. yum yum. Hopefully power does not go out.
Sympathies to people that are getting hit hard by this storm. I just hope that I am not one of them. My power was out for 4 days from last years ice storm.
40 Miles N/W of little Rock we have 3/16 ice on bare limbs, sleet is falling and it is 25F on the mountain where we are at. Sleet & snow won’t hurt but more freezing rain could play havoc with power lines.
I’m in Greenville, SC about 40 miles from the NC border, and they’re telling us that at the very least we’ll freeze over tomorrow. My husband had an important tournament tomorrow that has now had to be canceled because the North Carolina players almost certainty won’t be able to make it, so he’s sufficiently annoyed.
Right now, it’s just cloudy. They say the rain will start very soon, though. I have school tonight from 5:30 to 10:00 so I really hope the roads are safe at 10:00 pm.
