Not sure if this is better for game room or here because I’m asking an opinion.
I’m getting into WOW and am feeling my logitech two button mouse with scroll wheel just isn’t enough. I don’t want a wired mouse and with gaming mice being over a hundred dollars I would appreciate advice on what tones to stay away from and what ones to look at.
Sorry my main advice is to actually avoid wireless mice – batteries run down and it sucks to be in a raid and have them go dead.
THat being said, I used a trackman trackball wireless for a while. It is very comfortable, and very ergonomic, and the thumb on the ball is way more controllable than the ball under a fingertip when it comes to doing the hold down the button and roll and click thang.
I just really prefer wire, i hate going through batteries.
While I can appreciate the problem of batteries going dead at a time that would make you and your party members dead I do not like cords on my keyboards and mice.
I don’t know if i could get used to a trackball but that one does not look like it has more than the normal amount of buttons.
Guess it depends on the types of games you play but for most multiplayer games I am with aruvqan and would avoid wireless like the plague.
I appreciate you dislike wires but batteries dying and lag issues with wireless that of course happen at the most inconvenient times I just would not go there.
My mouse wire bugs me occasionally but most times I am able to ignore it.
That said it is not for me to dictate what you like. I would recommend looking at the Razer Mamba (horribly expensive) or Razer Orochi (pricey) on this page. Orochi is bluetooth wireless. Not sure about the Mamba.
Good point though is both seem to be able to be wireless and wired. You can switch if you want.
I play WoW with a wireless mouse, and I use rechargable batteries. I just replace them every couple days, proactively, and put the old ones in the charger. For me a couple days equates to about 6-10 hours of gameplay.
(I say that, but now that I think about it - its been about a week since I’ve changed my current ones out).
I learned that lesson when my batteries died once as a healer. Fortunately we didn’t wipe
MannyL - in what ways do you find the two button mouse insufficent? I’ve played as DPS, healer and tank, and never had much of an issue. However, I am only doing 5-man dungeons - so full on RAID healing but might a bit of a different story.
Left mouse button, scroll wheel, right mouse button and the ball is under the thumb, normal amount of buttons … the little molded in ridges are probably making you think they are extra buttons.
Don’t get suckered into thinking you need a gaming mouse, especially for WoW. IF you are hugely into competitive gaming, then it might be a tad beneficial to blow $100 on a nice wireless gaming mouse, and then really only for mouse intensive stuff like FPS games.
And logitech makes good stuff. Just remember to put it in the cradle every night, and keep a crappy old usb mouse in the drawer just in case.
I use a Logitech MX5500 wireless keyboard/mouse combo, and love it. I put it on the charging cradle about every other night, but I’ve been able to go for multiple days without running low, and it’s never interrupted my gaming. The keyboard’s batteries get replaced about once every three months.
The mouse has 11 buttons, all told, and they’re all easily remappable. For example, I’ve got the thumb buttons bound to PageUp and PageDown, and the thumbwheel bound to Home and End. This comes in handy in games, for obvious reasons, but it’s also made my websurfing so much simpler that I just can’t stand to use a regular mouse anymore.
I hate wireless mice, they’re heavy and the batteries are a problem.
I also tend to steer away from Logitech mice as they tend to be heavier than I’m comfortable with for long sessions. I generally stick with Microsoft mice, oddly enough. I’ve had a 5 button microsoft mouse for years and years now and I love the things. My last logitech gaming mouse was heavy and would hurt my wrist (I have an old injury) and yet it still came with weights to make the thing heavier, like I’d ever use them.
Just a note, at least one member of complexity’s WoW team uses an mx300, which is pretty much the simplest mouse out there. If you’re happy with the mouse you have, there isn’t any reason to can’t still use it.
Yup, I have raided successfully at the highest level of a couple of different games with a stock keyboard and two button + scroll wheel mouse (and about 5% as many macros as most people use these days, get off my damned lawn already!). Wireless is a bit of a different issue; I had one for a bit, but the performance left a little to be desired, and the batteries were an issue at two or three key times as well.
I’ve been using a Logitech G5 for the last several years, and it’s the best thing since sliced bread; looks like the G500 is the current version and is similarly highly rated everywhere I can find reviews on it. The fit, the ability to adjust the weight, and the functionality are all Just Right for me.
