Wireless modem petering out?

I’ve had a dlink modem for about a year and until recently my iPad and Google pad got signal anywhere in the house (three story, modem in basement) Then the iPad started not getting signal in some locales, and now the Google pad is doing the same thing. In fact, now I have to literally have the Pads right next to the modem in order to register an “excellent” signal strength. What gives? Do these modems really crap out like that, or maybe it’s a different problem?

I have a DLink DSL modem/router from Verizon and I can say, without any qualms or reservations, that it is a complete, utter, and total piece of crap. It was crap when we got it and it is still crap, only worse. Each time I call Verizon, they send me another of the same modem. Guess what? They’re crap, too. I have three of them. I would call and complain, but wading through all of Verizon’s menus is a pain in the hiney.

Sometimes, the modem simply stops syncing with Verizon’s network. Other times, it just randomly knocks devices off the network (both wired and wireless). So, some things work and other things don’t.

Don’t ever buy DLink.

You could try changing the channel the WiFi runs on. Should be an option for that in the wireless menu if you log into it. Might not help, probably can’t hurt. Also, have you tried switching it off for 30 seconds and back on again?
