My dad is getting hard of hearing, he has to really crank his TV up to hear it and then the sound is distorted enough that it’s hard for him to understand.
He saw a pair of wireless headphones in a flyer and thought that would be better but doesn’t really want to wear headphones. They were the big clunky kind, looks like the electronics are in each ear piece.
I suggested maybe a set of wireless speakers. His living room is pretty long and traffic passes between his viewing station and the TV so he doesn’t want wires across there.
The wireless speakers I’m finding are truely wireless, battery powered little independent speakers. What he needs is just a wireless link from the TV to a small AC powered amp to drive a couple of speakers near his chair, he has AC power by his chair. Also with this he could use a small little set of unpowered headphones, the small, comfortable kind if he wanted to.
Now that’s just what he’s looking for. I swear I Googled until my fingers bled (well, a slight exaggeration) and didn’t ever see that particular set up.
I don’t see any reason that wouldn’t do exactly what he wants. Thanks for the link.
Looks like you can get them from Amazon for $109 shipped and the reviews are pretty good from people using them in the same context as what he wants. His TV has a fixed line out (a semi-crucial requirement for trouble free operation) and I think they’ll suit him fine. If not, I’ll buy them off him and use them to pipe internet radio into my shop.
I have one wireless speaker hooked up in the back of a very long room. It works great for surround sound and didn’t have to run a wire and spend hours hiding it.
One word of warning - those speakers often have multiple channels, so make sure you get the channels in sync. The multiple channel feature is great (in case there are other wireless gizmos in the neighborhood) but if they ever get out of sync, you have a problem. Just wanted to warn you in case dad ever says the things 'broke"…it could just be that somehow a button got pressed that shouldn’t have been pressed and you need to get things back on the same channel, or change channels.
