I used to haunt just General Discussion, but now I’ve branched out to MPSIMS (or whatever it’s called). My wish is for an easier way to jump to the other boards, from at least the top level of the board that you happen to be in.
Another wish is for a link, at least at the top level, back to the Straight Dope home page. I log in several times a day to the message board, but the main page changes only once a week. The only way to get there is to use my own bookmark. Seems kinda strange that you wouldn’t make that jump easier…
I see a Homepage blue line on the bottom of the page.
Is that the one you need? It WOULD be nice in with the others. I always lose links. I would have never guessed the big blue/gold logo was a link, until my daughter pointed it out!
Please check the bottom of the page; you can either jump to any forum (see the drop box) or the Straight Dope Home Page (the “Straight Dope Home Page” hyperlink).
If you want to jump to the first page of the Straight Dope Message Board, you can simply click on the hyperlink at the TOP of the page.

Suggestion: Put the pulldown at the top of the page, and include the links for Contact and the HomePage. I don’t know about you, but I tend to ignore all the fine print at the bottom – hence my OP.

Someone should pass this on to the programmers.
(Or do they read these automatically? The suggestion responses never seem confusing enough to have been written by a programmer.)

Let me send this to the techs. We’re still sorting out bugs, and I can tell you up front that the techs take a really conservative approach to board management, they don’t want to stray too far from what vB does as a matter of course. Customizing the board overmuch makes it difficult to upgrade and maintain.
Anyway, I’ll run this by them, we’ll see what happens.

I checked out this thread in hopes of becoming a more adept SDMB’er. These threaded messages just overwhelm me. I never know where to start! too much looks interesting. I can never get quite inserted into a conversation.
Any tips? I’ve come here off and on for more than a year, and can never feel quite like I know what’s going on.
For my money, Web Crossing message boards are much easier to navigate and make sense of. But I’m willing to stick with this type, if I could only get a handle on it, somehow!

Heck, with over 475,000 postings to look at, that would daunt anybody, it amazes me and I’m here all the time!
Try adjusting your view; the default is set for five days, but sometimes even that’s a lot of stuff. Try changing it to one or two days and that might give you more of a handle on things. (Click on “Profile” in the upper right hand corner of any SDMB page and follow the prompts to change your default settings.)
Just start with ONE. One forum, one thread. Pick something that looks great and go for it, open it up and read. Comment if you like. Repeat as necessary.

It does, it does. Already I’m feeling a surge on nonpatheticness.
So, is there any way to subscribe to a particular board – or thread, rather. One o’ me woes is that I find it hard to remember where I’ve posted. But if I follow your advice and stick ONE place, I suppose I’ll be able to remember AT LEAST that.
