Hilariously, we thought the boy was going to bed at the usual time. As soon as he figured out there were countdown timers involved it was clear he was way too amped to sleep tonight. So this will be his first time ringing in the new year. Naturally, he’s trying to micromanage the process. So he’s got a tablet with a straight countdown timer on YouTube, while he tracks the actual time on my watch. He’s got hourglasses in various time increments he got for Christmas, and I’m sure the new stopwatch will be involved at some point. This is one boy who won’t miss a second!
Meanwhile I’m warm on the couch eating Half Baked ice cream watching mediocre performances in Times Square. Pretty ideal.

The celebratory gunfire has been unusually light this year. The peak at midnight was kind of crazy, but ten minutes or so after, it’s pretty calm. The fireworks have almost drowned them out!
