Inspired by my other thread I thought I would do this. Using Yahoo! or Google (or any other preferred website, see how many of Starbucks, McDonald’s, 7-11, and Subways there are 5 miles or closer to your house and where you live.
For me in Los Angeles (using Yahoo! Yellow Pages):
Starbucks 54
McDonald’s 31
7-11 36
Subway 49
I can tell you without even doing a search!
Starbucks: 0
McDonald’s: 0
7-11: 0
Subway: 1
(There is one Starbucks and one McDonald’s within 25 miles of where I live. There are no 7-11s.)
Within my city (not sure exactly how many miles)
5 Starbucks
10 McDonalds
1 7-11 (but 15 Circle K stores)
15 Subway’s
Hmm, I’m not finding a good way to get that info off either Google or Yahoo. Tips?
Using each store’s website, I found:
Starbucks - 36
McDonalds - 26
7-Eleven - 26 (which astounds me. I could have told you about 2, and that only after thinking really hard.)
Subway - 21 when I search with the first 4 digits of my ZIP, which I think is roughly 5 miles, but I could be wrong about that.
According to the McDonalds website, there are 8 McDonalds within 5.54 miles of my zipcode. If I just go with the 5 miles, it is 6 locations.
There are 6 Starbucks within 5 miles.
There are six 7-11’s within 5.23 miles.
Subway didn’t have them sorted via range, but when I searched on my zip code, it came back with 6 locations.
As I mentioned in another thread, there are 6 Whataburgers within 5 miles of me as well.
That is kinda weird. All these businesses have 6 locations within 5 miles of me.

Good god.
I’m sure someone will beat me, but sitting here at work it looks like I’m purt near the epicenter of chain retailing.

McDonald’s: 2 (Queen/Hwy. 410; Main/County Court Blvd.)
Subway: 2 (Shopper’s World Brampton food court, and just outside Shopper’s World Brampton in a small adjacent plaza in its parking lot)
Starbucks: 0. (There’s one about 8 miles away near one of my old jobs)
Starbucks: 6
McDonalds: 15

Subway - Just opened (only fast food restaurant in town other than pizza places) not even on yahoo maps yet…
