Within this thread, we rhyme instead

Here’s a poem I wrote for you, I hope you like and write one too

Great, this thread means that some blogger’ll
Clog the boards with dreadful doggerel

Eh, no, cannot write you a poem, although I enjoyed reading yours. The best I can do is:

It’s the July the fourth,

Have a great party on your porch.

Damn, that doesn’t even rhyme. What to do?

Otto. Really. Neatly rendered.
Nothing else now need be tendered

So negative? It’s early yet,
This thread will soon take off I bet!

Roses are red, violets are wavy,
I like potatoes with lotsa gravy.

No, seriously, that’s my own work. I didn’t copy it from anyone. Really.

Today before it is too late
I must quote this song which is great:

Today’s the fourth of July
another June has gone by
and when they light up our town I just think
what a waste of gunpowder and sky

(Aimee Mann - Fourth of July)

Well, crap; it sure is a hell of a time
Coming up with words that’ll gracefully rhyme.

It was a long day today that I spent in the sun.
I’m wanting to rest; with that I am done.

I like to dine
when there’s wine
but a peice of cake
makes it simply divine…

(shut up Jessondair)

Woulda been better if you’d been able to work gravy in there, Eilsel. :stuck_out_tongue:

While writing poetry is easy,
excessive rhyming makes me queasy.
The clunky, choppy type of verse
Is often trite, stupid, or worse.
So maybe we should all try silence
Before our poems bring on violence.

It’s getting too dark to see the lake
Where all the fireworks wait to fly,
But I have before me this gorgeous steak
And might have gravy bye and bye.

The taters are cooked; the salads are made.
The stars come out to wink at me.
And my late night plans are fully laid
To eat and eat and then let be.

I lied, at that; it’s not as hard as I thought,
Since such a thread as this is something I’ve greatly sought.
The 'Boards, of late, while entertaining for sure,
was, with bridge-dwellers and deaths, something of a blur.

But, enough technical prattle; I’m all done with that;
It’s the Fourth of July today, it’s not a time of rant.
With the possible exception of this ‘Pops Goes the Fourth’ concert;
From A&E to CBS, just like that – for them, it must hurt.

Although, I see, A&E’s all but lost.
Brian Wilson is on; how much did he cost?
Whatever the amount, I’m sure it’s quite high.
(No pun was intended – ‘Bulls**t!’, you cry)

Though rhyming I enjoy to do
I save it as a joke or two

Jessondair
I do not care
about the problems
with your underwear

The pyros are outside, firecrackers alight,
With glee and enjoyment, for fun
While I’m staying inside away from the fright,
All ready to dial 9-1-1.

I will not! My rhyming is keen,
And tasteful and well-metered – I’m sure you’re agreeing.
I should be out, I know, watching the fireworks,
but feel blessed that I’m spending this evening with you jerks!
( :stuck_out_tongue: )

my eyebrows raised
at the comments of Joe K
Jerks you say?
I say “nay”

Though I am no word flogger
Or even a website blogger
I hope you’ll take this for what it’s worth
And accept my fond wish for a very happy Fourth!

Eilsel, Eilsel, maiden fair
This wasn’t about MY underwear
Nor is it about the army or navy…
and it still would be better if you talked about gravy.

Please, folks, no autographs at this time…
