Without looking it up, how many Oscar nominees have been in Marvel films?

Bumping for Oscar winner Chris Cooper.

Have any of the Fantastic Four movies (including the one in production) had an Oscar nominee involved in them?

Lawrence Fishbourne (the Silver Surfer) was nominated for playing Ike Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It.

Michael Lerner – the heavyset “That Guy” actor forever getting tapped to play a rabbi or a judge or a mayor or whatever – was a Senator in the latest X-MEN flick, decades after getting nominated for an Oscar with BARTON FINK.

Revisiting the thread, I notice that James Cromwell is missing, so adding him now.

Plus, three other Spidey alumni seem very likely to be added to the roster this year: J.K. Simmons, Felicity Jones and Emma Stone.

Plus this year, two Hulks will likely be competing against each other in Best Supporting Actor (though both have previous nominations already)

Bump (because all 5 people I mentioned in my last post did indeed get nods)

Nice. I noticed two hulks and JJ Simmons had gotten a nod.

On the thinnest of technicalities, Gary Sinise.

Oooh, yeah. I suppose that will have to count. He’s credited, after all.

For what it’s worth, Benedict Cumberbatch has been announced as Doctor Strange.

Not to mention Oscar nominee Josh Brolin as Thanos.

The summer has passed so let’s add to the roster:

Ant-Man: Michael Douglas
Avengers: Age of Ultron: Julie Delpy

No new additions from the most recent Fantastic Four debacle.

The upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE flick (starring Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, as mentioned upthread) now has both Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the cast.

Doing a little digging, and it turns out winner Octavia Spencer had a bit part in the first Spider-Man.

And with the SAG nominations out, we might very well add Idris Elba (Thor) and Rachel McAdams (the upcoming Doctor Strange) to the list, if their nominations are mirrored by the Academy.

It always tickled me that the X-Men franchise had two Oscar laureates and neither one played Xavier or Magneto.

Bumping the thread because CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR featured Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard and Oscar winner Marisa Tomei.

Jim Rash (winner for THE DESCENDANTS) also had a bit part in CA:CW.

Also, per my last post, McAdams joins the list (though Elba does not).

And Lupita Nyong’o and Forest Whitaker are on the cast list for BLACK PANTHER.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who played Quicksilver in Age of Ultron) won a Golden Globe for his role in Nocturnal Animals, so tomorrow we’ll learn if he gets a nod for it from the Oscars.

Mahershala Ali has won the most critic awards in the Supporting Actor category, and is almost assured a nod for Moonlight. He’s a regular on Luke Cage currently.

Ruth Negga has a long shot chance of getting an Actress nomination for Loving and played Raina on Agents of SHIELD for 3 seasons.

Well, Taylor-Johnson didn’t make it, but Ali and Negga did, as well as Andrew Garfield, who played Spidey twice.

Angela Bassett now too.

Also Michael Keaton is going to be the Vulture in Spider-man Homecoming.
