The King of Soup, both those leave a lot of ground to be covered. Out of the frying pan leads traditionally into the fire, but poets play with that. Out of the fire into Japan, for example, and some John Hiatt line that I can’t quite place.
There was a Staff Report on Beyond the Pale, with the Pale being a fence between two groups on Britain (the island) who weren’t getting along. Since then, it has come to mean anything that’s beyond the realm of decency or reason.
(Such as…naaah, never mind.)
Thank you, AskNott. But actually I was asking if anyone knew of members using those location tags. Thanks for the insight into the origin of “beyond the pale,” though. I didn’t know that.
I thought TwistofFate used beyond the pale but it’s actually inside the pale. Same reference though - the Pale was the “civilised” bit of Ireland around Dublin - he’s just in Dublin instead of outside it.
Ah, gotcha. Mine is also clearly not extraordinarily witty, but it’s the only one I’ve seen with an Opeth reference.
Way back in the day, my location used to be “In the State of Denial”, which was a reference to my favorite Calvin & Hobbes comic of all time.
Mrs. Wormwood: Calvin! We’re studying geography! Now, what state do you live in? Calvin: Denial. Mrs. Wormwood: Sigh…well I don’t suppose I can argue with that.
No BJMoose. I refuse to believe that there is a generation that knows not Bullwinkle. My mind can’t stretch that far. So, of course, your location is instantly recognisable.
