"Wizard of Oz", this time of year, every year.

Anyone know how this tradition got started? As far back as I can remember in my illustrious TV viewing career, the film version starring Judy Garland is shown between Halloween and Thanksgiving. Whats the connection?

As far back as I can remember in my illustrious TV viewing career, the tradition in the 1960s and 70s used to be “during February sweeps month”. They changed it?

In the UK, it was always on at Christmas. Every single year. They stopped it a few years ago, it’s now only on every couple of years, afaik.

They’ve also shown in around Easter in the US, probably because there are plenty of Christmas films, but few Easter ones.

Yep. I remember it being shown every year at Easter, back in the pre-cable, pre-VCR days.

That’s EXACTLY how I remember it. Every February. Forever.

In fact, I watched it for years having to imagine the transition from B&W to color, as we didn’t have a color TV yet.

It’s a Turner-owned movie on a Turner-owned station. They can do whatever they want! (Hey, tradition’s gotta start somewhere.)

In the 70’s,early 80’s , it was early March. My birthday is on the Ides of March, and for years it was always within a week of my birthday.
