WKRP was never expected to be released on DVD, thanks to licensing issues with the music on the show. Let’s hope they have it worked out and the series has all the original music. Because if it doesn’t this will probably be the only season ever released.
That would be my question. With original music? Great! Without…well, it wouldn’t be how I remembered it, and so would be lacking something.
If Ivan says “Hold me closer, Tiny Dancer” to Bailey, based on a generic ballad-type song instead of Elton John’s original, isn’t it lacking something?
Of course, all bets are off when it comes to Scum of the Earth.
I think this has come up before. My parents (Dad, actually ) got a WKRP DVD a couple of years ago for Christmas. I would have to check if it is a special “no music” compilation, but the show has certainly been available before now. (It includes the timeless Thanksgiving promotion episode.)
If it doesn’t have the original music, I won’t buy it. Lack of the original soundtrack killed the Tour of Duty DVDs and screwed up my favorite episode of Greatest American Hero on DVD.
My husband was saying just the other day what a great show that was, and how he wished it would come out on DVD. If the music is original, we’re all over this.
Call me skeptical. I’ll probably rent it at the video store or off of NetFlix and see if they did right by the show before I buy. If they did, I’ll buy it just to encourage more seasons.
