Woah - Diablo 2 getting a content patch?

My #1 wish for new items would be new high-end sets. As they are, a couple are good for twinking (Sigon’s), a few individual items are useful by themselves, and a couple are worth combining a few set pieces (Trang’s for fire skills and poison skill damage, Angel jewelry for AR) and the rest are junk. The only set I ever really see people use complete is Immortal King, and even then the armor is easily replaceable (especially considering it’s rarity).

That would be nice. I’d especially like to see some high level set rings. I shouldn’t dread seeing a green named ring pop out of hell enemies.

So who all is in when they reset ladder? P is playing a baba and I’m playing a bliz sorc (to be respecced later), and H is of course playing a summoner.

Some kind of paladin would be ideal for a solid core party.

I’ll be out of town for a few weeks over Christmas, but after that, I’ll be on the new ladder. My usual first character is an enchantress (very nice in combination with that skelemancer), but I can support a character doing pretty much anything. My feeling, though, is that the paladins (hammers and smite) should be saved for the second generation of characters, after we’ve got the BO, summoning, and teleporting bases covered.

Actually, with respec, my enchantress will probably start off pumping charged bolt. Enchant doesn’t really start coming into its own until level 30 and Fire Mastery.

When are you starting? I might be interested in playing; I’ve got Christmas break staring me in the face, and I love playing Zealdins. I haven’t played with any kind of a dedicated party for years, and I miss playing a Summoner/Paladin duo.

We’re restarting when the patch comes live and the ladder resets, and Og only knows exactly when that’ll be (though probably soon, given that it’s in open beta right now). Meanwhile, we also have some characters on the current ladder on US East.

Yeah the future hammerdin will have to start as a melee character, but luckily melee paladins are solid in a party and their auras tend to help everyone.

Well, I always enjoy playing as a melee Paladin, especially in concert with a Necromancer. At what time do y’all play? You say US East, but you don’t all seem to be in that time zone. I haven’t played in years- how well do melee Paladins play in the long run, and which skills do they tend to work in now?

I’ve stopped playing for now, but only because I believe the new ladder has to be right around the corner. As soon as the ladder resets (which I assume someone will post in this thread when it happens), I’ll be right there back with y’all.

I’m in central time and I’ll play after work most nights. P works weird hours and plays after 10-11pm eastern.

That actually works well for me as a college student in Western; you’ll all be about done by the time I want to go out at night. Is there any hint of when the server resets?

Sometime in the next couple weeks, probably.

I’m in mountain time, but I think I’m the only westerner left currently. I’m usually on in the evenings sometime (after 6:00, say).

Smiter is one of the power builds currently, and it doesn’t look like that’s changing in the new patch: Load them up with Crushing Blow, and a Grief weapon if you can afford it, and they absolutely obliterate anything one-on-one (including bosses and Über-bosses). Zeal/fanat, zeal/shock, zeal/freeze, and vengeance/conviction are all still viable, but are novelties, relatively speaking, compared to Smite (though, as an enchantress, I’m somewhat biased to partying with those other types).

Fanat/Zeal is a lot better without IM to worry about.

I might be interested in reloading this. Someone want to just assign me a non-essential role/build that’ll be nice to have around on occassion?

I might be game as well. Haven’t played D2 in a few years, but remember the times fondly. I’ll keep an eye on this thread to see when things get rolling.

If you’re rolling on US East Hardcore, you can count on my trapper being around.

How many people around here are playing HC? I don’t know that I want to invest quite that much time.

I won’t completely rule out the possibility of playing hardcore, but I’d at least want to get back into practice in SC for a while first.

I don’t think I can put myself through the agony of another hardcore character.
