Story here. Let this be a lesson to you: Clean out that closet! You never know what you’ll find in there.
A different report I read today said police speculated she may not have lived in the man’s closet for the entire year straight, but rather began living there a year ago and had maybe been living in other people’s closets, too, hopping from house to house. The mind really boggles.
That’s how she was found out: the man noticed that food was disappearing from his fridge. He couldn’t figure out why this would be happening so he installed security cameras and caught her in the act.
The Japanese author Taro Rihai, using the pen name Edogawa Rampo (Japanese transliteration of “Edgar Allan Poe” – get it?) wrote a story in 1925 called “The Human Chair” about a guy who hid in a chair in a woman’s apartment for a long time. Maybe this woman was just a fan.
I love the fact that the article is accompanied by a photo with the caption:
I like the fact that they felt compelled to include a photo of a closet, as if we wouldn’t get the idea. And it’s a file photo of a closet – not the actual closet the woman was hiding in. I’m glad. The file photo looks a little bare, and she would’ve had a hard time hiding in it. What she would neeed would be a deep closet, like my wife’s, which the cats spend a lot of time hiding in.
