betenoir, if you’re really creative, you can use your bread machine as a vibrator.
Just don’t use it to make bread then.

Personally, I don’t think she was suing because they inspected it-she was suing because they were crass and unprofessional.
KellyM, if it’s illegal to mail “obscene matter” then how do you get subscriptions of skin mags mailed to your house? Or how do you get sex toys you mail order sent to you? What about adult videos? Or adult toy catalogs?
Somehow I think the federal government would figure out eventually that a company on record with the IRS as a mail order sex toy buisness would be shipping ‘obscene matter’.
TLW, somehow I don’t seem to have said that anywhere. I do remember pointing out that she assumed the risk of being embarassed. And it happened, the question as to if Delta was at fault was not adressed, nor was the behaviour of the security person.
And TLW, I like the world I live in. Where people has RESPONSIBLITY for their actions. I was trying to point out that the situation happened because of an action the woman, of her own free will, did. Nobody made her pack the toy. There is no right to privacy on airplanes, there wasn’t before the terrorist attacks and there isn’t now. For decades each and every one of us knew that getting on a plane our bags would be searched and or x-rayed. It’s not unreasonable to expect that your bag with the sex toy would be searched. It is reasonable however to assume that if it happened, it would be delt with in a professional manner.
But I NEVER ADRESSED THAT
CRorex: Every “adult” item I’ve ordered online has been shipped via FedEx or UPS. Since these services are not “mail” the postal regs don’t apply.
I don’t consider the plaintiff’s actions as “irresponsible” and accusing her of not acting responsibly borders on the misogynistic. I don’t think she would have complained if they had asked her what it was, she had answered, and they had said “Thank you for your cooperation”. She isn’t complaining about being searched, but about being put on public display.
I think all of my female friends own some form a vibrator. I bought my first one when I was fairly young and before most of my friends, but they caught on. The one I own now was bought for me by a friend, actually, and shipped to me. I know that I personally wouldn’t take a vibrator through airport security if I could help it. I would just ask for a room with a bathtub if I was staying at a hotel, or tough it out.
I do think that the behavior of the workers was drastically unprofessional. Amusing or not, they’re not ten years old anymore and they should know better than to act like monkeys at work. I was taught how to keep a professional demeanor; it seems like more people now of days are not being taught the same.
Oh for crying out loud!
A USED sex toy would be different than ordering something from a company, I would think.
KellyM:
How do you think adult items were shipped before everyone used Fedex?
Anyway most places switched to using USP/FedEx 'cause of online tracking and easier for shipping. I remember the good old days flipin through my dad’s pornos seeing the adds for all those sex aids that would be shipped by the USPS in a plain brown wrapper.
Wow I’m misogynistic because I said you should maybe think twice before sticking a dildo in a suitcase if you don’t want to risk the possibility of getting embarassed if they search your bags.
Hehe
Sorry, but I gotta stick behind what I said. If you ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY want to avoid the possibilty of embarassement when your luggages is searched, “DON"T PACK ITEMS THAT WHEN PUBLICLY INSPECTED WOULD RESULT IN EMBARASSMENT”.
I mean hello? That’s what I’d do. Yeah I could go into how there should be security people who don’t run around the room screaming, “Look at this ladies vibrator, ewww see how it’s still sticky”, and poking everyone in the terminal with it. But I think we all know that people should know not to say that. As for her suit against Delta.
I don’t give a rats ass, I just hope it doesn’t cause all of the airlines to raise prices due to increases in their insurance/operating costs.
But I guess I’m a bad boy
I don’t supose I could get a spanking?
Christ, you’re stupid.
:resists urge to make yeast joke:
CRorex:
in my opinion, lay off man. Trust me, you do not want a group of angry women on your ass.
I agree with Rilchiam I too am amazed.
In any case, Delta was wrong. God knows I would have burst out laughing if a saw the woman holding up a dildo on the tarmac. Besides, think of the kiddies that were on the plane.
If the allegation is true, then Delta employees were wrong to mock Renee Koutsouradis. Of course, people are rude to people all the time, and they’re wrong, too.
Renee Koutsouradis was wrong to pack the sex toy in such a way that it could go on. Her carelessness delayed the flight and inconvenienced every passenger and crew member.
We all commit minor wrongs like this every day. These things simply do not belong in court. Delta shouldn’t sue Renee Koutsouradis for her negligent packing and she shouldn’t sue them for their employees’ rudeness.
CRorex, you speak of personal responsibility, yet you seem to think that the security personnel should not be held responsible for their inappropriate actions. Their job does not include making a spectacle or ridiculing passengers.

Since you brought that up, has anyone else seen Aerosmith’s new video (Girls of Summer or something like that). Did it surprise anyone else?
Hey, if you guys will all chip in for a plane ticket and the props, I’ll make a flight with suitcases filled with nothing but sex toys. Could even be an investment if I get to sue afterward.
I personally wouldn’t normally travel with that sort of item. However, male sex toys seem to be are somehow ‘worse’ than female ones, so the comparison may not be valid.
Once again, the media frenzy has succeeded.
We know the basics of the story, and we know one (1) woman’s tearful tale, of horror and abject humiliation.
We know nothing of the truth.
I am willing to bet it isn’t nearly as bad as she states. I’m also willing to bet that some inappropriate things may have been said/done, but I doubt her story.
And, for the record, if one self empowered woman getting a tad embarassed will keep a plane from blowing up, I’m OK with that.
Did you see earlier on in this thread where some of our own Doper women spoke of being ridiculed and humiliated by airport security?
Sure… but again, one side of a story, where all stories have three sides. Note: I respect Anthracite, I think she’s the wasps nipples (better than bee’s knees) but still…
In (here it comes) the post 9-11 world we should expect things to be a tad more strict in the airports. This woman was a dumb ass for not taking th perfectly normal precaution of removing her batteries. It even recommends it in most airport lobbies that I’ve seen.
On a totally other direction, she could have just looked at the airport security, and deadpanned. “No, that’s not my bag, baby.”

Sturmhauke I fail to see where I supported the security person’s actions. I never said ANYTHING about delta, the security people, or the woman in question.
ALL I’ve been saying, over and over again is:
If you forsee a possibility where you could be humiliated in public, and don’t wish to take that risk, then do not assume the risk.
And I’ve been using for an example the discovery of a sex toy in luggage.
I fail to see how saying this makes me a mis… mys arrg that silly word I’ve only ever seen in spacemoose, or how this makes me defending Delta or the actions of security. I never said WHAT should be done to the security person in question, or what actions should be taken against Delta or what actions should be done in the court.
Look, if I’m going on vacation and my preferable way of relaxing is watching midget wrestling while I’m playing with my 3.5 inch vibrating assbeads after a long hard day bar hopping… but I’d be embarassed if the rest of the public found out about my habit then I wouldn’t risk any of it being discovered by security and risk that the security officer in question was unable to deal with it in a professional manner.
If I had used this example would I be getting the same flak?
All I’ve been trying to say is that when you do something like pack, buy or transport a sex toy, or an inflatable sheep or whatever you run the risk of someone finding out and acting in a very very immature manner. I just think that people should think about that possibility and either take steps to make that risk smaller, if it bothers you (like wrapping it paper so they can’t see the box or mailing it to where you want to go or ordering it online) , or if it doesn’t bother you go ahead and do it.
What happened to the woman on the delta flight shouldn’t have happened, something which doesn’t need to be mentioned by everyone since we all assume there are some general rules we live by in society and some things we don’t do to each other, but IF you don’t want something similar happening to you: THINK ABOUT MAILING YOUR FREAKING SEX TOY TO YOUR HOTEL!
No sex toy in luggage = no nasty pathetic security person making crude and humiliating remarks.
Look, obviously everyone is reading all sorts of different things into what I’m typing other than what I’m saying, so go for it have fun. But I’m done talking about this.
Too bad, CRorex, for I was going to request that you please DO address what do you think of the security people’s behavior and what should happen to THEM.
After all, they are the only ones here who are alleged to have DONE something wrong (mocking and ridiculing a customer).
Ok I should explain something first, by I’m not going to talk about it I meant that I wasn’t going to explain what I was saying again…
JRDelirious, if you read my last post I did explain what I thought of the security person’s behaviour. So I fail to understand why you are asking for my opinion again.
I also fail to understand why each and every person must point out that their behaviour was as described in my last post. Everyone over the age of 15 or 16 in our society should understand what is acceptable and unacceptable public and professional behaviour. So basically as reasonable productive members of society we should all reach the same conclusion about the appropriatness of the said behavior. The whole, treat people how you’d like to be treated…
As for what to do about it… I didn’t mention what I think should be done because I didn’t want to pick a fight, but it looks like I got involved in one anyway. Hell I didn’t even call the woman a dumbass for leaving the batteries in her dildo…
The least they could do is give her one of these…
