Woman taken by shark - you wouldn't read about it

On the weekend a woman was killed by a shark :

*A 21-year-old woman has died after a horrific shark attack off North Stradbroke Island late yesterday.

The Brisbane woman, on a church camp, lost both arms and received terrible wounds to her torso and legs in the attack at Amity Point about 5pm.*

Why wouldn’t I read about it? It was on the front of the AOL News today.

They said her friends thought she was joking when she was screaming “Shark!”
Poor woman. What a way to die!

There was a fatal jellyfish sting too over the weekend. Great spot, QLD.

I think the “You wouldn’t read about it” remark related to the {bolded} location, Amity Point. We’re gonna need a bigger boat…

I saw this on the news this afternoon – Amity, beach closure, “Our kids were in that water, you know?”

I just watched Jaws on the telly last night – first time I’ve seen it in nearly thirty years, too. Weird.

It was clearly a boating accident.

While my heart goes out to the family of the young lady who died, ya gotta laugh when you read such lines as:

:stuck_out_tongue:

I’m assuming the little girl who died in this case was a local, who would have been aware from the time she could talk that you do not go swimming in northern waters at this time of year.

I’m curious as to why she ignored such knowledge.

Lots of people swim in the jellyfish season. Sure, it’s stupid, but they still do it. On the flip side, there really isn’t any time that is safe from jelly fish. People get stung in the dry season too.

Seriously? I thought that the Box Jellyfish had a definite seasonal activity up north.

Remind me never to go swimming beyond Byron Bay or Carnavon again, OK?

It is seasonal, there are fewer jelly fish in the dry, but there are more people swimming so you still get the odd sting sometimes. I have heard that July is the only month with no recorded stings (reffering to Darwin I think.)

Remember back before September 11, 2001 when shark attacks were everywhere in the news paper?
It is nice to see that sharks are getting back into the terrorism business again after their slice of the pie was serious damaged by Al Queda.
