Women: How far out into public do you go without a bra?

Inspired by Patty O’Furniture’s thread I was curious how far the women of the dope will go into public without a bra.

I know that some of you never wear one and I have to admit being a bit jealous of that.

I also know that cup size has a lot to do with things. Since I am a DDD, I don’t have the luxury of going without out in public. When I get home though…it comes off! It may actually come off in the car on the way home.

There have been some days off when I wanted to run through the drive thru that I have actually done that without wearing a bra. The whole time I’m worried they can tell I don’t have one on.

If I think I am going to be walking in front of someone or standing there talking with someone, I feel like I have to have a bra on.

I don’t sleep in a bra; but, if I spend the night with a girlfriend and her family I feel like I need to put it on before I step out of the bedroom. I’ve only got one girlfriend where that’s not an issue…Her husband doesn’t seem to mind.

I’m just curious about the rest of you. I guess in order to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges, what is your cup size and what are limits on going without a bra?

edit: slight change in “going bra less” to “going without a bra”

About 10 feet. That’s how far it is from my front door the the mailboxes in the common area of my apartment building. And even then I hold onto the sisters with my elbows. I don’t go outdoors to do it.

I think once I ran down to switch the laundry with no bra on - that’s about 10 feet down as the crow-who-can-fall-through-floors-flies, but probably 40 feet in actual running distance around through the back.

It’s not a modesty thing, it’s a comfort thing. I used to go topless entirely at clothing optional festivals, but nowadays it just hurts. And yes, I do sleep in an (underwire) bra.

I’ll run to the corner store in one of those camisoles with the built in shelf-bra, and I sleep in one as well. Any farther than that, and I prefer the real thing.

I’m a C and a half/small D cup. The girls are actually pretty damned perky, but I just feel more comfortable when they’re a bit restrained.

How many guys are going to be monitoring this thread to see what other female Dopers are in the D+ range?

I go out and about without a bra on sometimes, depending on what clothes I’m wearing. It’s very liberating. At home I never wear a bra.

In usual around the house clothes [tank top / t-shirt, no bra] I’ll go to the mailbox or dumpster, which is a little ways on the sidewalk that runs along side the apartment building. But throw on a second layer with some substance [a hoodie, generally] and I’ll go to the grocery store or something equally low-key [drive-thru, post office after hours, drugstore]. And I’m a C cup.

38 DDD checking in here. Never go in public without my push-up bra. Almost never wear it when sitting around the house. Though when I take it off, it’s actually kind of painful at first.

I’ve thought about doing the surgery. I think my breasts are one of my most aesthetically pleasing features, but not the tiniest bit practical at all, so I’m torn. I am really self-conscious about them, especially since I’ve lost weight. And I feel tortuous flames of jealousy toward women who don’t have to wear bras for things like strapless dresses and the like. I have always dreamed of being able to just throw on a halter top or a sun dress one beautiful summer day and go for a walk. That will probably never happen for me.*

*For the cited picture, don’t even ask me how long it took to find a bra I could wear with that dress, and how much that bra cost, and whether or not I could actually breathe…

When I was a 38DDD, I would not step out of the house without a bra. Now that I’m a 38C I’ll go almost anywhere, but for modesty’s sake only if the weather allows me to wear a heavier garment. But that’s because I have almost permanent “party hats” since the surgery.

Yup, as long as I’m wearing a sweater or something so it’s not obvious, anything very informal is fine. Quick run to the grocery store, video store, bakery… pretty much anything done at the end of the day after I’ve come home and taken off my bra. I even sometimes go in to the grad student office after hours without a bra.

C, and I never wear one on my own property. I often don’t wear one in winter, because up here, we are wearing several layers of clothes all the time anyhow. I’ll wear one if I’m going to be running or working hard, or if I am swollen/painful.

That reminds me - last winter I was hanging out at a friend’s apartment, and we got bored and started playing strip poker. In the winter I skip the bra a lot as well (because I’m usually wearing something thick or with layers) but I ended up being grateful for the fact that I had arbitrarily decided to wear one that particular night. Be prepared, I say.

42 DDD.

The furthest I have ever gone is in the car, zipping down to the end of the country lane to get the morning paper before I’m dressed. I think I’ve done this three times, ever.

I do walk around the house in a t-shirt and underwear before I’m dressed, but I don’t answer the door without a bra. No, not ever.

As WhyNot said, it’s partially a comfort thing. In our old house, when I ran up and down steep stairs all day, I couldn’t have the girls flopping around. It hurts. (My husband used to be much amused at the sight of my running upstairs, a boob in each hand.)

The rest of it is definitely a modesty thing. I just don’t feel comfortable without a bra in front of anyone. (Husband, mother, and siblings to which I am close excepted.)

The only time I’ll go outside without a bra is when I’m wearing a sweatshirt or something equally heavy and I’m running for Nyquil, aspirin, or other sickie supplies and feel like such crap putting a bra on would make me feel that much worse.

I don’t sleep in a bra because it just isn’t comfortable, but I’m definitely more comfortable in a bra if I’m doing anything at all active. If I tried to run without a bra, I’d give myself double concussions. Plus, the bra usually keeps my headlights from being extra obvious.

::waves hands feverishly:: :smiley:

If I don’t feel like wearing it, I don’t. I am a 38B.

I do wear a sports bra under my shirt for workouts. I also wear a bra when at work.

34B but with dark prominent nipples - I don’t go out without a bra, but at home the girls are free.

34B–sometimes all over the place. They’re super perky so wearing the bra isn’t really giving them any needed support. My nipples are really really out there, though. So sometimes it is just polite.

ETA: Sometimes I wear a bra for working out, sometimes not. They do jiggle, but somehow I’ve never found it all that painful. Or at least, no more unpleasant than exercise is meant to be.

(largerbandsize)C. If I don’t feel like it, I don’t, but that isn’t very often.
I went out last night after hanging out at home until four AM, and when I got dressed, I didn’t feel like doing the whole bra thing. So I didn’t. It was cold, and the shirt was flimsy, so I had a hoodie on the whole time, but I’ve been known to go sans bra in a number of different shirts and dresses. I just make sure it doesn’t look too trashy, and I won’t be running!

I thought of this incident when I read the boxer shorts thread. I used to ride a bike to work, and when I got home the first thing I did, after dragging my bike up three flights of stairs so it wouldn’t get stolen, was change out of my good clothes quick before I started sweating on them. (I have an odd metabolism when bike riding, I don’t seem to sweat until I stop the activity. Must be the breeze.)

So on this occasion I got home, took my bike upstairs, stripped out of my office dress and pantyhose, and pulled on a pair of shorts. I wandered around my apartment doing various housekeeping kinds of things wearing just the shorts and my bra. Then it occurred to me that I really needed to get the trash out so–forgetting I had on just a bra (32G), because it was a really hot day and it sort of felt like a halter top–I went out to the alley with my trash bags and dumped them.

Maybe I should mention that my alley was pretty much open, and right across from it was the parking lot for a 7-11 store.

There were some bikers standing around in the parking lot. They gawked at me and I gave them my best “What are YOU looking at” stare and went back into my apartment, where I realized…what they were looking at.

Yeah, I was clueless in those days. Hey, at least I remembered to wear my shorts.

Now that I’m all grown up and respectable I have, on occasion, taken my kid to school in my PJs. I pulled on my boots and my leather coat and I was driving, and hoping like hell that I didn’t get stuck in the snow. This is only for emergencies. Otherwise no, I don’t go out without a bra. I will let room service into my room wearing just my PJs although I prefer to be dressed.

ETA: The room service thing applies in hotels, obviously. I don’t have room service at home. I wish I did, though.

38DD, I’ll go as far as the grocery store or walmart (across the street) if I need something and I really don’t care. I usually toss a hoodie on overtop also, so it’s not quite so obvious.

Further out? I always wear some sort of bra. Be it a sports bra or the lovely So Free bras from La Senza (reminds me, I need to get a couple more…).

I just feel weird otherwise, especially now that I found a comfortable bra. I still take it off almost as soon as I get home though.
