Woo hoo! I'm getting a new car.

It should arrive at the dealership by this weekend, so hopefully I can pick it up on Saturday morning.

I got a 2002 Corvette convertible (black all around). I have been dying to own this car since I test drove one in 1999. Finally - I will have a car that is capable of driving more than 100 miles without collapsing under its own weight and costing me more than the GDP of Spain to fix.

It comes with this really cool HUD (heads-up display), so I can pretend I’m an F-14 pilot when I get stuck in traffic on the Long Island Expressway.

Saweeeeeet!! Congratulations! Does it come with Javelin ATGMs so you can blow that traffic jam off the road? 'Cause you just can’t have a HUD without anti-tank missiles. It’s just not right.

I may have to ask you a few questions when I try to buy a new one in January. I might need a li’l advice. . .

Tripler
Really, HUD w/o missiles? That’s just not right.

Well, post a photo for Christ’s sake!

I think the stock rims look like shit. The chrome or Al/alloys at least. I hope what you meant by “black all around” included black rims. MY GOD that would look so mean. AFAIK, the 2001 model had the option for the smoke rims(which would look equally awesome), are they available for the 2002?

No, not black! Cars like 'Vettes, Vipers, Ferraris, and their ilk should NEVER be black. It hides their graceful body lines. Ya gotta go with Laser or Torch red!

Still, good choice on the Corvette. However, for a lot less money ya can get a SS Camaro and get the same performance and 4 seats. But, if you can put up with a two-seater, more power to ya.

Wishbone - I’ll post a photo after I pick it up. The car will come with polished aluminum rims, which I don’t like either, but they’ll be quickly replaced with something cooler (I’m perusing catalogs as we speak). Unfortunately, the smoke rims weren’t available for 2002. Neither was the beautiful Navy Blue Metallic color that I originally wanted. It was discontinued.

Mythos45 - Each Corvette color has a personality. Unfortunately, the choices for 2002 colors were pretty limited:

Torch Red - Says, “I bought this car because my penis has ceased to function correctly.”

Millennium Yellow - Says, “I enjoy getting pulled over by the police at every opportunity.”

White - Nice, but makes it look like a chick car.

Silver - Nice. Would have been my second choice.

Black - Extra cool. Would look even cooler with a vanity plate that says “Bad Mofo” on it.
A Camaro? Nah… I can deal with the two-seater. Experience has taught me that I require a faster ride with fewer seats (you don’t get stuck driving all your drunk friends from bar to bar).

Tripler - Can you scare up some anti-tank missiles for me? I think I can fit the launcher mechanism behind the holes where the fog lights are supposed to go. Then I don’t have to put up with soccer moms in those giant Cadillac Escalades any more. Heh…

How exciting! We just bought a new car yesterday! A 2001 VW Beetle TDI - Lime Green! WooHoo!! We’re wild and crazy now!!

OK, actually, it’ll be going with our Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] when she goes to college in 3 years - provided she can prove to us in the next three years that she’s responsible enough to own such a fine machine.

After owning 2 'Vettes ('86 and '92) we’ve pretty much decided we’re not gonna own one again. Hubby wants a Prowler, but that’s another thread entirely.

We now return to THespos and his cool new car…

Hope you set some speeding ticket fine money in escrow! Enjoy your ride!

I’m not a fan of American cars. And that’s an understatement. But every now and then, there’s a particular model that just AMAZES me.

The Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is in that category. And if I can trust the international press, this is actually an American sportscar that can even give its European counterparts a run for their money in the handling department. And THAT’S a first. Rule of thumb: you know an American car is a good when the Brits (reluctantly) admit it is.

Excellent choice. Have fun with it!

Thanks, Coldfire.

I’m not a big fan of American cars, either. I cut my teeth on VWs, Mercedes, and later, Porsches. I was looking for a car that handled as well or better than my '85 944, and my first stop was the Porsche dealership to test drive one of the Boxsters. Turns out that car doesn’t even really handle like a Porsche. And it’s underpowered, too.

I used to hate Vettes. I couldn’t stand the body style until they came out with the C5. I test drove it and when I was done, I said to myself, “Self, this is exactly what you’re looking for.” Lotsa power, nice and low to the ground, not too disconnected from the road, a suspension that doesn’t remind me of a mooshy sponge - I was happy that I test drove it.
