Congratulations on the new book Eve… I’ll have to hit the bookstore and check it out!
The good news is that once again my Eve Golden collection is complete. When I arrived home from work tonight, my copy of Anna Held and the Birth of Ziegfeld’s Broadway was awaiting me on my doorstep.
The bad news is that I was forced to resort to the tentacled clutchs of Amazon.com. Probably not what you want to hear, Eve, but my international quest to find your book in an actual bookstore was fruitless. On the plus side, two stores said they had had copies which would indicate said copies must have been sold. And my various requests may have helped create some “buzz”.
Having just received it an hour or so ago, I haven’t had the chance to start reading yet (and probably won’t before next week). I did look through the photos and the only complaint I have is that my copy seems to be defective as I didn’t get one with the “author playing volleyball” photo. A nice photo, yes, but not as … interesting … as the one in Platinum Girl (didn’t you find that thong somewhat uncomfortable?)
Glad Anna was waiting on your doorstep, chatting with the neighbors, Nemo! I forgot to tell you to request the “slut photo” version of the book . . .
As far as availability, I have just E’d my publisher to complain that a lot of Barnes & Nobles and Borders aren’t stocking it, and asked if they have been forwarding the unmarked envelopes stuffed with cash to the right people. Unfortunately, University presses can’t afford the necessary bribery needed to get good distribution and placement in major bookstores (shall we start another thread about how evil the superstores are?).
I long for the good old days, when a few well-placed blow jobs could still get you into the right bookstores!
Congratulations, Eve. That is extremely cool.
(Said a fellow writer - OK, just a lowly reporter, an ink-stained wretch. But still capable of intense envy and jealousy.)
The view count on this thread was at 666, and I was a little spooked.
Me, I’m kind of grateful I can just walk in, like most folks.
