So I got a job after going thourgh rehab.

The good thing is that I have a job. The bad thing is that I have a job doing tech support again. The hell (#1) is about to start. I don’t know if I can deal with the idiot users anymore.

I really shouldn’t be bitching but I was hoping to get a job at my level (#2).

On the bright side the pay isn’t too bad and I’ll probably get promoted pretty quickly.

#1. I did tech support for 2 big companines and I have had every imaginable idiot on the phone. My favorite was the guy who used a hammer to plug a serial cable from his modem into the printer port. The truely amazing thing is that Windows actually found the modem on LPT1. And I actually got the “My cup holder broke” call (think CD-ROM tray).

#2. Networking stuff. For some reason all the casinos out here use NT and AS-400(#3). I’m a Unix guy.

#3. I worked for a bit for a casino. Another IT guy there described AS-400 to me this way: “AS-400 is like IBMs version of Crack. First it makes you stupid, then it makes you angry and then you kill someone.” . He wasn’t joking.

Hey, double congrats. Having worked field tech support (I had 4 great guys who worked with me), I feel the pain. Be a pro, pretend they’re your little kid brother or sister who broke something and laugh gently at the idiocy. Educated users are more helpful than idiots. Sometimes.
