I am on REBETRON™ Combination Therapy containing REBETOL® Ribavirin, Capsules (I take 6 200 mg pills a day of this. ) And INTRON A Interferon alfa-2b, recombinant ( I give myself 3 injections of this a week. In my stomach, which is my choice . It is a shot that is taken sub-que like insulin)

The doctors have discovered that the geno-type of Hep C you have is important when it comes to treatment. It’s sad that not only are there different types of Hep (A-G) more info here, ( http://www.hepatitis-central.com/hcv/hepatitis/hepcontents.html** ) but that the types have sub-types (Geno-Types). You can learn more about that here http://hepatitis-central.com/hcv/genotype/predict.html I have geno-type 3 A which seems to respond well thankfully.

Congratulations on your good news! I don’t even know you and I’m happy for you.
But…I’m also clueless. Ihave a VERY close friend who has Hep C. She is healthy, and suffers no affects from it as far as I know. That is, as far as she tells me.
I was unaware that this disease was treatable. But when she called me earlier in the week and told me that she finally found a physician who would treat her, I was thrilled! But now I’d LOVE to have more information from you guys. This friend of mine commented that drug therapy could be tough on her…make her sick similarly to chemo therapy. She mentioned Interferon. She also told me that her doctor gave her about a 70% chance of being CURED. She didn’t use the word “remission,” she said CURE.
A cure? For a virus? Can anyone point me toward some basic information? I’m curious about this and worried about my friend and I’d love to know more about what’s going on. Of course, you don’t have to worry. I won’t foist my opinions and small amount of education on her. But I’d just like to know a little more about it because she and I have become so close.
