The short version is that the new Guns n’ Roses album has been coming out any day now for the last fourteen years. Earlier this year, for no reason I’m aware of, Dr Pepper ran a promotion where they’d give everybody in America except the ex-GNR guitarists a free can if the album was released this year. It is, and so we get free soda (and shitty music).

I literally went on a mission this past wednesday to 3 different import stores in Toyama, Japan looking for Dr. Pepper. ALL 3 were sold out (I did pick up some chili, pretzels, and not-shit beer though, so totally worth it). Japan is weird. I can get Coke every block and a half out of a vending machine, I can find Sprite Zero but not regular Sprite at most super markets (though they have cans in some machines), and Dr. Pepper is a rarity beyond measure (among many other things, including real ale)

Are there any retailers that accept home printed coupons any longer? No retailer in my town or the places I shop in Madison will accept them any longer because of the fraud. I’m thinking this will be a cheap promotion as nobody will redeem the coupons.
What fraud? Everyone and their mother knows about the free Dr. Pepper. It’s right on Dr. Pepper’s website. It’s not like they can’t just type “drpepper.com” into the nearest computer and check it out if they don’t believe you.

I had it backwards, I thought the coupon would be available until February, but that you had to use it w/in 24 hours of printing out the coupon. Man. Thanks Straightdope!

Funny I didn’t hear of it when I stopped in here on Friday. But that’s okay, since I picked up 2 cases of the only Dr. Pepper in the world made with pure cane sugar instead of HFCS*. 
*It’s a gift. I only drink the diet swill myself.
