One last day of work and Thursday, WorldCon starts ! I just went and picked up my registration package today (lots of cool events) and tomorrow I will start choosing which I will attend. Anybody else coming ?

Yup - won’t be there until tomorrow morning, but I’m coming. First time I’ve ever been to any science fiction convention at all, let alone the big one - should be pretty awesome. 
It is awesome. Ispent several hours there yesterday and I am going back there today. Words of advice : beware of the Dealer’s room unless you are prepared to spend lots of cash (or ready to grind your teeth to nubs :D)
Have fun! My wife and I have attended two WorldCons (the last two ChiCons). The first one I was there to demo 3D computer animation on the Amiga using LightWave and they gave me a pair of free passes. The second, I paid to attend because I had so much fun at the first.
Favorite moments:

[li]Cliff Stoll giving a lecture about The Cuckoo’s Egg - and anything else that came into his head.[/li][li]Attending a screening of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension with the whole audience whistling along to the theme song and shouting “Planet 10!” and “Real soon!” to the questions “Where are we going?” and “When?”.[/li][li]Attending an “At Party” back when all the people at WorldCon who had e-mail addresses could fit into a single hotel room.[/li][li]Visiting all the party floors. The tradition is taking the elevator to the top and walking down. After a floor or two, the wisdom of this becomes apparent.[/li][li]Seeing a girl in one of the party suites showing off her Janet Jackson style nipple plate to Eric Raymond (ESR).[/li][/ul]
…and a general sense of joy in the knowledge that I had found a place where I was not only not the most eccentric person in the place, I wasn’t even a contender.
