Wish I were going. The Millenium Philcon is still the only Worldcon I’ve made it to (but I was there for the entire thing).
If Forest Ackerman (sp?) is giving a talk, GO.
The masquerade will probably be extravagantly wonderful. Take pictures. Make sure you have a camera that can take pictures in odd lighting conditions without flashing (for during the show). Remember that most of the entries will also be out in the hallway during and after judging so that you can take pictures in full light.
Go to the filking. It will be good.
Multiply what you think you’ll spend on books, games, and doo-dads by at least 2. There are wonderful things to find in the hucksters’ room.
You may want an extra suitcase along for all the stuff you will undoubtedly be buying. Most hotels, though, will be able to ship packages for you.
Stock up on caffeine.
No matter how hard you try, you will never be able to see or do everything you want to. Enjoy what you can get to and don’t regret the rest.
looks it over Yeah, pretty standard con advice, only more so.
I might show up Saturday. It’s the first week of school, so I really can’t bail Friday, and there’s not really anybody there I have to see. I don’t even have many books that need autographing that I didn’t get done at Comic-Con last month.
I’ve only been to one–the 41st WorldCon, ConStellation, in Baltimore waaaay back in '83. I played basketball against Alan Dean Foster, drank a beer with Jack L. Chalker (the Guest of Honor that year) and shot the breeze with R. A. Lafferty on a tour boat. Best time I ever had away from home. One of these days, I’ll go to another.
I have been to 2 worldcons, both a while back, Atlanta and New Orleans. Wish I was going again. Think of whatever it is you go to conas for and multiply it. It is the top of the food chain. Have a fabulous time. We are with you in spirit.
