Yep. After leaving NE Ohio Sunday morning, I finally made it. I didn’t push myself - I figured seven hours or so of driving was enough each day, since I knew I had several days of it.
I did make yesterday a shorter drive - I stopped in Albuquerque and went to the Atomic Energy Museum and the Natural History museum and was completely dorky and had lots of fun.
Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get my lease signed and move the stuff from my car in - the movers are coming to drop stuff off on Wednesday, so I’ve got a few days without furniture to deal.
And I think the last few days have caught up with me, because I think my brain function is practically zero at the moment. Luckily, I’ve got a hotel room and I can just crash when I can’t go any more. Just don’t want it to be too early, since then I’d be wide awake at, oh, 4:00 AM with nothing to do.
Glad you made it there safely. I’m envious of your opportunity to drive across the country. Have you told us where you’ll be working? I remember reading your thread asking about how to get there, but don’t remember if you said anything about your job.
Woo-hoo- it’s hot as hell, huh? Glad you made it here safely- let’s get together sometime! Maybe if I stay in the AC long enough I’ll be able to muster up enough energy to organize a Tucson Dopefest!
I spent several summers there, all without AC! We definitely had evaporative coolers, but not the conventional AC. I’m very envious - I loved Tucson. Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks. I guess since I’m not in Youngstown anymore, changing it would be appropriate.
I’ll be working at the university. I’m terrifically excited about it, but also starting to get a little nervous. But it’s going to be good, all the way around.
And yeah, it’s hot, Alice - but even the short periods I was out today felt no worse than New Orleans in August. Super hot, sure, but not unbearable.
Lsura, welcome to Tucson. Hope you survive the heat. And the monsoons. Hope you enjoy your job, the University of Arizona is really a top-notch institution.
Alice, a Tucson doperfest sounds good. One of these days.
