Woohoo! I've got a phone interview!

Just got a call that I’ll be interviewed on Monday by phone for a position at NAS Patuxent River. Yay! It’s for the program that will select the aircraft to replace the P-3. I’ve been working in P-3 engineering for 9 of the last 12 years, and my last tour of duty in the Navy was in a P-3 squadron. I’ve got the qualifications - I just need the job.

For once, I’m glad the gov’t moves slowly - perhaps this will fall in place so I can transfer in June like I want. If they want me sooner, that’s doable too - my daughter can live with a friend till graduation. It’s not ideal, but it can be done.

With all these intervening days to worry, I should be a wreck by Monday!

Remember that they’d be lucky to get someone as qualified as you for the job. they should be the nervous ones. Good luck and best wishes.

Aw man! They’re cutting loose the P-3? I love the P-3! I’ll miss it terribly.

But if it means you get a better job where you want to be (and out of your kid’s hair so she can cut loose) I guess it’s OK. Good luck with the new gig. I guess. (Poor P-3…)

Rue - don’t despair just yet. Last timeline I saw had the P-3s still in service until at least 2010, probably longer, since the replacement hasn’t been selected yet and acquisition is a long, loooooooong process.

Here’s a little P-3 fix for you.

Chavardz - Thanks for that point of view. I’ll try to keep it in mind.

Keeping my fingers crossed from now till Monday is going to wreak havoc with my life – but for you, FCM honey, I shall do it.

If I post in the meantime – assume that I have dictated to the cat, who is actually a fairly good typist. God knows I can’t type with all ten fingers crossed, which they will be.

I’ll also be walking funny from all the crossed toes (and, eww, my toes are long enough to do it). Nothing’s too much trouble to get you the job you deserve.

I’ll close my eyes and wish really really hard for ya to get the job FCM. I’ll do it a bunch of times everyday. Now pardon me while I draw up a schedule for wishing.

I really really really really really really wish that FCM gets that job. There the first one’s out of the way already.

twickster, while I truly appreciate your good wishes, I want to know how you taught your cat to type! Mine just crawls up on my chest while I’m at the computer, rests his head on my shoulder, and sticks his butt in my line of vision.

swampy, a schedule?? Now that is impressive! About the only schedule I manage is getting up each day, and that’s just because i don’t turn off my alarm! But I am touched by the good wishes, scheduled or otherwise!

Think of me naked while you interview.

Oh. I’m sorry. We’re supposed to be helping, aren’t we? I always screw that part up.

Good luck, FCM. The FedGov came through for me, so there’s hope for you

If you get the job, we’ll be country neighbors. We’ll have to visit. Imagine, the VunderKind trying to romance The Perfect Child…

Best of Luck to youFCM! I’m sure you’ll charm the pants off 'em!

welby, I wouldn’t have to imagine you nekkid if you’d send me a photo for my cubicle wall… :stuck_out_tongue:

vunderbob, the Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] will be in Orlando going to the Univ of Central Fl. She shan’t move to Maryland - the little wuss doesn’t like cold weather.

Thanks, earthpuppy - I don’t want their pants, just a job!

A number of years ago when I was working for a military contractor, Photonics Systems, Inc., we worked on a pilot program to upgrade some of the data displays in the P3’s for the NAWC-Indianapolis (Naval Air Warfare Center). We made a nifty little green plasma display about 4 x 8 inches with a guided acoustic wave touch screen and and a little on-board 386 motherboard embedded. I don’t believe it widely adopted, though.

However, Photonics also made all the displays for the DIFAR sonobuoys that are dropped from the P3’s (and other aircraft). For this program, we made the display only - none of the associated electronics and packaging. The DIFAR was our bread and butter for several years.

Good luck to ya!

When you interview it might not be a good idea to demand unlimited access to the internet at your workstation. You can arrange that yourself later on. They really don’t need to know about it, now do they?

Best of luck FCM! You can use my name if you need to, as in “I promise not to be the kind of employee Bumbazine was.”

Congrats, but I’m sure the Gov will let you come in whenever you want. I put them off for well over a month before I would come to work. They didn’t even bat an eye when I told them I couldn’t be there for six plus weeks.

Good Luck!

But that’s a verrrrry long drive from the Inner Harbor! Where are you and Fairy Chat Dad ultimately going to live when you get off that boat? I hope it’s way south of Balmer.

I’m not coming in, tho - I’m transferring. I found out this afternoon from my team leader that one of the major acquisition decision is supposed to be made the end of this month, so they may want someone ready to go after the first of the year. Dunno. I will make sure that comes up in conversation.

Our living arrangements has been a topic of conversation for some time now. In fact, when I was up there last weekend, we drove down to Herrington Harbor North to check out their facilities. Unfortunately, altho it’s about halfway between Balto and Lexington Park, it’s also in the middle of nowhere.

So the other alternatives we’re discussing are:[ul]- He finds a job around Lex Park and we live on the boat together till we build our house

  • We buy a boat for me to live on in Solomons till we build the house and he keeps the Fisher in Balto.
  • I get an apartment around Lex Park till we build the house and he keeps the Fisher in Balto
  • I win the lottery and none of this matters because we’ll have a house built and buy a bigger boat[/ul]Like I always say: Indecision is the key to flexibility!

And thanks, Unc and Bumb. I found the web pages for the program - I’ll be studying before Monday.
