Wool comforters and night sweats

Does anyone sleep with a wool comforter? I am looking for something to help with night sweats, and I have found a bunch of websites that claim that wool comforters are the way to go. Anyone have any experiences they can share?

<raising paw> I have a Hudson Bay Point Blanket. Best. Blanket. EVER. I use it only when I get really cold, though, because frankly if I use it when it’s just sorta-cold then I wake up about 2 hours later sweating and feeling like I’m in an oven, being slowly roasted.

BUT, i can tell you that it’s way better than the feather comforter I used to have.
It’s warm - real warm - and it does “breathe” nicely. I suppose if I used just that and a sheet, or something, it’d be ideal.

Not real helpful here, am I…

I too get night sweats. I spend the whole night alternately throwing the covers off then replacing them minutes later. I also spend a lot of time waking up and trying to go back to sleep. Sigh. I don’t use a wool comforter, I use a light cotton blanket. I’m in Michigan. It’s pretty cold here but I suspect it’s a lot colder where you are. When it gets too cold for just the blanket I spread my robe over the top.

Sorry, me again. I’ve been googling wool comforters and I can see why you want to try it. They seem expensive but if they’re as good as they say it would be well worth the 300 bucks.

Just as an excess of caution, but have you talked to your doctor about your night sweats? Sometimes night sweats are a symptom of disease. I

I don’t have night sweats, but I wake up hot in the night and have to adjust the layers of blankets as I cool down and warm up. It certainly can be annoying.

Thanks Cub Mistress, but I’m pretty sure it’s genetic, and medication related. A lot of people in my family deal with it too. If it was just randomly occurring, I would definitely talk to my doctor. Thanks Maladroit and DogMom. I think I’m just going to give it a shot and hope it works!

I use a wool Pendleton blanket in the winter. It keeps moisture away from your skin!! And they’re really beautiful too (the vintage ones, I have a Chief Joseph pattern).

I use a cellular blanket likethis. The little holes are great at letting sweat evaporate and preventing the horrible clamminess.

Instead of throwing the blankets off and then pulling them back on all nite. I just stick one foot out until I cool down then pull it back in.

Well, I don’t know much about blankets, but from a study of cold weather gear I understand that wool can absorb more moisture than any other commonly available fiber. You do have to pay attention to making sure it gets well dried, though.

The trick with sticking out a hand or foot really works although it takes a few minutes. No idea why; it doesn’t seem like enough surface area to make a difference.

I find that letting the house cool down at night (~60 F) and piling up the blankets makes temperature regulation so easy I could do it in my sleep.

Sorry. Can’t help myself.
