What do you think, sirs?
Legomancer, I don’t detect any suckage there. The ones I’m familiar with, I like. (Blue Man Group :)) And the ones I’m not familiar with - well, I like to think of myself as eclectic, but there are a lot of folks here who put my music knowledge to shame. So where did you hear about:
American Hi-Fi
Evan and Jarod
Neko Case and Her Boyfriends
Nina Gordon
Fountains of Wayne
Jude
Shriekback ?
Heh…my secret is that I’m not too proud to turn on the radio. American Hi-Fi, Evan and Jarod, Nina Gordon, and Jude all came from my local pop station. They were all in rotation amid N’Sync and their ilk. I like guitar-driven pop when it’s done well and catchy.
Neko Case I found out about this way: Last year at the end of the year I looked up a bunch of “Best of 2000” lists for music. I then went on a certain service that rhymes with “Bapster” and and downloaded tracks from those artists. Neko Case was one of those.
Fountains of Wayne I originally bought cause I read a review that said they were good, old-fashioned power pop, which they are. I love em. Thanks to that Bapster service I was also able to get a lot of non-album tracks, including this cover of the Britney Spears hit, which is great.
Shriekback and I go way back, and though they are now less of a band and more of Barry Andrews and whoever is within his field of vision at the moment I still enjoy their stuff. This track is about a year old or more, but I had only really started listening to it a few months ago.
thanks Legomancer, checking out the “Best of” polls is a good idea. I’ll also do some searches in past threads to see what the dopers like. I’ve never checked out the various file-sharing services on the web, mainly because I was, until recently, on a dial-up connection.
Personally, I like the “Morning Becomes Eclectic” series from KCRW. That’s exposed me to some cool stuff. KCRW now has several archived programs online at KCRW.org in streaming format. Just in case you want to check them out.
I recently put this on ten CD’s!
