Word 2010 suddenly starts using French spell check rules

In the middle of a document, Word 2010 is flagging a lot of correctly spelled words as wrong. When I right-click to see what the error is, the suggested corrections are all French. It only happens in one document.

My settings are all for English, in Windows and in Word. It doesn’t even look like French is loaded.

My Google searches for this turn up loads of tips about how to spell check in French, but none on how *not *to spell check in French.

Any wisdom?

Just the one document though? Never anything else, ever?
Sounds like a setting within that document- maybe it’s set to use Canadian?

Is the text tagged as French? Did you create the document from new, or did you re-use another document that may have had parts tagged as French?

Edit: Tools > Language… > Mark selected text as…

Just learn to live with it. C’est la vie!

This. Is the doc original with you, or from another author, or re-used? I hate sharing docs with people because they come in with all kinds of weird-ass settings.

Easy to fix, though, as directed.

This was the problem. I got the document from someone else, this part was tagged as French. Who knows why. But in 2010, the commands are Review->Language->Proofing Language.

Thanks!

Cool! I’m using 2011 on a Mac, so maybe my commands are different.
