I wasn’t sure if SANTO was a word, but I wanted those five letters, and sure enough, it took it.

ETA: A SANTO is a carved image of a saint. Learn something new every day!

What’s especially irritating is that SMASH is the first --ASH word I came up with. Had to try those other consonants first, though! Fortunately, I came to my senses before QUASH.
So is ‘Santos’ its plural? Nothing saintly about that guy!

RATIO → I finally get to start with one of those great starting words, and what does it get me? A stinkin’ unplaced A, that’s what. Ok, still an E out there, and some common consonants…
LEANS → And… that’s not bad. For some odd reason, I feel like I need to check the U here, and that means trying…
QUASH → Think I’ve got a repeated letter, and I’ll try the consonant first…

The other possibility was AWASH - and Scoredle thinks I should have tried SWASH. But I didn’t see ABASH, and if I had, I would have ended with a 5.

Got super lucky that I saw leafy before leaky. When I saw leaky I liked it for the answer much more than leafy, but I had already seen leafy, so against my better judgment I went with leafy. Total luck.
