LEAFY
In hindsight, should have tried for the EA words (in 2nd and 3rd spots) at guess #2…there were a lot of choices! I was hesitant to toss up a W and V at guess #3, but I just was feeling the word - when I’m faced with too many choices, it’s how I roll. Nice to place the EA, but this could be a slog. Fortunately, my second choice of what I was “feeling” out of my long list of words was the answer! So I feel very lucky to escape this one in 4.
Tricksy Wordle today.

LEAKY
LEAFY
I’ll take the 4 today and not complain. (Much.)
SMASH → Not a bad start. A placed in the center does cut down on things some
TRAIL → Got lucky I didn’t think of TRAIN here first, I would have gone for that. I figured I should try an E, so the L can go early…
LEAKY → OK. Only one word left…
LEAFY
TRAIN instead of TRAIL second would have had me panicking, and I don’t think I would have gone for something with a Y with the next guess, so I was really lucky there.

LOCUS
Shockingly, locus was the first thing I saw, and I saw it very quickly. It seems difficult to come up with words that end in S that aren’t just regular plural nouns, but I’m pretty sure present tense verbs are valid answers. So after first seeing locus I kept looking and saw cools, coils, boils, fouls, and even though it’s just a regular plural noun I wouldn’t be shocked to see jowls in the answer list. None of those possibilities (including locus) would positively identify among them, so I just went with the first thing I saw. I was frankly stunned when locus went all green.

My degree was a BSci in Applied Mathematics, and LOCUS is one of my favorite words. In a plane, a parabola is the locus of points equidistant between a point (the focus) and a line (the directrix).

LOCUS
Before wordle, my only familiarity with locus was when I played Dungeons & Dragons Online and one of the material components in one of the crafting systems was a Locus of Vol. Since wordle, though, I did notice it being used by others as an early guess so that’s why it came to mind so quickly.

I had never heard of this word. I spent way too long trying to figure out another word – any word! – not this one. I finally looked it up and discovered it is a bonafide word, so gave it a try. It might be a common word in some circles, but not in mine!

Turns out that after SCORN, LOCUS and FOCUS were the only two non-plurals left. Still, I puzzled for quite a while to find any word that fit. If I’d been paying attention to the WoF consonants, I might have logged a three, but I’ll take the par.
I expected this word to give people more trouble, but quite a few of you are under par today. Good work, people!
