“In a move that can only be classified as ground-breaking and revolutionary, Jif Peanut Butter has removed its long-standing slogan – “Choosy Moms Choose Jif” – from its website, jif.com.”
I guess it’s too sexist. (It’s two Os, @SunUp .)
Ah, yeah, I realized that after breakfast. (No, I didn’t have peanut butter on my bagel.)
After that I wondered if I could just slink away virtually with my hat brim down and collar turned up, but I guess I didn’t read the room right on that onel

ALIEN
PIOUS
CHOIR
I was patting myself on the back for coming up with the answer at three; then I looked to see that that was virtually nothing else left. DROID and OVOID were possible, but unlikely.
ALIEN improves from 3.55 to 3.50, now occupying the #3 position on my list.

@SeaSun looking right at you! I’ll have to find a new 2nd word, CHOIR was my default when LEAST/STEAL/STALE came up empty
Nice! If you’re wanting to get the O, I, R in there, Minor and Prion haven’t been used yet.

The only other possibility on the 3rd guess was APACE, and I wouldn’t hazard a guess as to whether that’ll eventually be a solution.
Of the two, I’d recommend Prion. It gets the R and I in their most likely positions by far, and given that they’re two of the most frequent letters, that nontrivially increases your odds of getting greens rather than yellows right off the bat.

CHOIR → A very welcome hit on a less-common consonant. Try to find a word with E & A and two common consonants to go with it
ENACT → That fell into place nicely. But it looks like a trap in the making. Well, after running through possibilities, I go right into the trap
SPACE → OK, so it must be
PLACE → Ahh, darn. Failed to think about repeat vowels
