I knew the best play would have been to go with my trusty “Dumpy” for my 3rd guess to check the P and D, but I just was feelin’ Brand.

I thought they removed words that could be names too (they have done that), so Frank was last on my list.

I looked at Wordlebot when it was free to everyone recently (it’s back to be paywalled again now), and I couldn’t wrap my brain around it entirely either.

It was kind of interesting and fun to see what Wordlebot has to say, but whatever gets me to the answer in as little guesses as possible, be it skill or luck, is dandy with me.

Well, I agree with WordleBot on this one. It didn’t like my 3rd guess, PRAWN, and looking at it now, I don’t like it either and don’t know why I didn’t see the more obvious GRAND and FRANK earlier.

Didn’t seem to be anywhere for an R to be in the solution, so I was only giving up the H, really, by substituting CLOSE for my usual second guess of CHORE. And I mostly needed vowels anyway. Worked out better than I expected!

Lots of woulda-coulda-shoulda today. I waffled between STONE and STOLE for my second word. I couldn’t have known at the time, but I picked the wrong one. Still had a birdie chance, but I ignored the common L again at three. Ah well.

Seeing the fortuitous result of my start word, I thought I could get this one in 2, but of course I go and lose the coin toss. I almost went with my usual Slate, and wish I had done so today. Fine with a 3 though…sort of.

Trying to get this in before midnight. This does not include today; I played my 600th game yesterday. Adding Wordle 821 to this post to help me find it again in three months.

My total stats after 100, 199, 400, 500 and now 600 games:

# 100 199 400 500 600
1 0 0 0 0 0
2 9 12 17 18 21
3 41 80 143 196 245
4 31 69 158 191 230
5 12 29 66 77 85
6 7 8 15 17 18
L 0 1 1 1 1
3.67 3.70 3.80 3.76 3.72

delta stats:

# 100 99 201 100 100
1 0 0 0 0 0
2 9 3 5 1 3
3 41 39 63 53 49
4 31 38 89 33 39
5 12 17 37 11 8
6 7 1 7 2 1
L 0 1 0 0 0
3.67 3.73 3.89 3.60 3.55

This whole 100 games I felt like I was doing much worse than the previous 100 because my 3s to 4s ratio was so much worse. Turns out getting even just a couple more 2s while also getting a couple fewer 5s and 6s really helps the average.

I have now been using the PLANT SCORE opening for 200 games and it’s getting better, surely attributable to discovering “roset” as a followup when there’s only a green T from plant. heh. (Previously my opener was CLAMP STORE.) And yes, when I originally tried roset, I thought that’s how you spelled rosé, as in the wine. The fact that it’s a totally bogus nonsense word makes me cringe a little every time I use it – how did I think that’s how the wine was spelled?! – but wordle allows it.

I’ll tell you one thing: In the past 200 games, there have been many, many times when I’ve thought “Wow, N is really so much better to check first compared to M.” I believe switching from M to N turned a handful of potential 5s and 6s into 4s.
