"Wordle," a strangely compelling word game (Part 2)

BRIEF → R & E unplaced. Not a bad start, but lots of possibles. Try a 2/1 comcons/vowels breakdown for the followup, since I is already gone
TEARS → So I grumbled a bit at this, and then thought I might have a repeat E, so I tested that quickly with
ENTRE → But didn’t see repeating the R in 4th. Augh! Since I had done everything up til now a little after midnight, I resolved to close the laptop and try again in the morning with fresh eyes. I took one look at it after some sleep and instantly saw
ROUTE

Scoredle helpfully pointed out I should have seen the answer for my third guess. Thanks, Scoredle! Maybe I should resolve not to take more than two guesses on a tired brain.

OTTER brain cramp here, the T in position 2 was already eliminated. Now we know letters 1,4, and 5.
ROUTE

Well, this is 30 seconds I’ll never get back.

IRATE
ROUTE

I mean, really, what other word was I going to try after that lay-up? FORTE or TORTE were the only other possibles. Legal background notwithstanding, TORTE didn’t exactly spring to mind. Not complaining about a 2, though!

Trying to figure out if that was a joke! A torte is a kind of dessert. A tort (without the final e) is the legal thingummy.

LOL, no you’re right – brain not quite engaged this morning! Either way, as a cook and someone with a legal background, the word didn’t occur to me!

Once I saw FORTE, I mentally ran through all the other consonants as a potential first letter, otherwise I’d have missed it.

ROUTE

Even with all those yellows I just couldn’t see anything all day. Yet another struggle for me. Then when I came here to post I saw it could also have been forte, which I never saw. Doh! (I suspect torte is not a valid answer, but I’m too lazy to go check the original list.)

SLATE
EMOTE
TORTE
ROUTE

I thought we were seeing our first repeated word! I saw ROUTE after Slate, but I had it on my previous answer word list for game #800, so after Emote, all I had to choose from was Forte and Torte. When those two words were ruled out, I was so confused…all I could see was Route. I googled what the answer was for game #800, and turns out it was WRITE.

I had to redo my previous answer list when my laptop died and I lost my Wordle files (which I stupidly never backed up). I can’t recall where I got the list from, but I copied it directly to my Excel sheet, so now I’m questioning all of the words I have on that list. Ugh.

ROUTE → OK, not bad, I like an -ER ending here with an A and two comcons…
LASER → Good luck with the A, didn’t place the other two. N is still out there, but I.m seeing fewer places to put it. If I try my three known letters in the middle, ?REA?, I see BREAM/BREAD/BREAK/CREAM/DREAM - lots of possibles. Best trapbreaker out of those is
BREAD → and, it looks like I needed to try ?EAR? instead, but picking up the D and eliminating the B means all I have left is
HEARD

I kinda feel like I played rather well on that one, though there was defintely some luck involved.

HEARD

HEARD was the first word I thought of after my initial try, and it occurred to me instantly. But then I thought, No-o-o-o, it can’t be that easy! So I wrenched away and came up with PEARL and BEARD. Derp. WordleBot was patronizing.

Congrats to all the 2s and 3s!

The New York Times had an article the other day saying that an analysis of past games suggested trace as a better first word than slate, crate, carte, crane, slant or adieu (the most common first word among players). So I tried trace today and got to the solution in one go.
