My struggles continue. This time inexplicably, in that I have no idea how it took me so long to see heard/beard. I was confident the answer would be of the form _EAR_, but I just couldn’t see that terminal D. Then finally saw both heard and beard almost at the same time. That brought up the dilemma: Go with the first thing I saw, or trust the B? Thankfully I chose correctly.

Summary
You’ve got traps to the left, traps to the right…
After 2, I figured the O was in the #2 slot. I saw DOING right away, but also realized that an OU vowel combination…oh wait, that’s the 8-trap! As in -OUND, preceded by your choice of BFHMPRSW.
Turns out the 8-trap has been mostly de-fanged, since FHPRS have already been used. (And my first two words had knocked out HRS anyway.) But that still left BOUND, MOUND, WOUND. And -OING was a mini-trap too, with GOING as well as DOING, and possibly the sound-effect BOING.
Also, just before I noticed the 8-trap, I’d thought I should check for words ending in Y, which is the second most frequent 5th letter in Wordle solutions. But the traps distracted me, and I never did get back to that, so if the solution had been DOWNY, I’d have gotten a 5. Fortunately, it wasn’t. (After 2, BONNY was also still a possibility. And OWING. If the latter had been the solution, it would have been the only possibility after 3; the hard part would have been finding it!)
So I went with BOUND on 3, which would have told me which trap I was in, and narrowed it down to 2 possibilities in the 8-trap and just one in the -OING trap. So DOING on 4 for the win, and as already noted, lucky it wasn’t DOWNY.

Last night after 2 I was sure it was the _ound trap, but I was too tired to go through the previous answers. Falling asleep I thought of shrub as a sleuth word. This morning, previous answers eliminated most of the trap letters, leaving only three. I figured I’d shoot for the 3 with the first one I had seen, which also let me trust the B. When that U came up black it was a real “Doh!” moment.
I did see downy but dismissed it as a brand name. I’m fortunate it wasn’t downy.

The word I was wondering about on account of today’s Wordle is BONNY. It can be a girl’s name, but it’s also an adjective (a ‘bonny lass’) but its flavor is mostly Scottish; AFAICT it doesn’t get used much that way in American English.
It’s the sort of word that might or might not be on the solutions list. (I’m happy to leave it in that state of indeterminacy.)

HEARD → Well, at least it knocks off some high-frequency letters. I’d like to try two of STLN to go with I & O, can I build a letter that also uses the D? Can’t be SOLID, I need to place D… so
DINOS → That worked well. Rearrange INO… DOINT? or

DOILY would have been as good or better a second guess by my criteria, while Scoredle wanted to try DOWDY, so I guess had had more than my share of luck.

I just thought of something regarding the used word list. If I think of word to use, and it’s on the list, what if it is the correct word just added today? What time is it updated?
