MICRO → Kept my expectations low; was not disappointed. E & A and two comcons, I wonder if this will work?
REALS → It did. Kinda slangy. Could be another E, or a U, or a Y in there. I can check the N with another E, so
NEWER → There was another E. And that R must be in the middle. And then I very lamely tried the first thing I saw, not seeing that I’d already tried the second E there…
BERET → But at least with the R placed, I could see what I was missing
VERGE
Bad misplay, but it could have been worse, if had been listening to “Bitter Sweet Symphony” at the time

I’m having serious deja vu to a few weeks ago, when I remember this same pattern – pretty sure it was the first time I used lopes as my second word – and repel was the answer. But I guess not.
EDIT: Looks like it was 6 days ago:

REBEL → I shouldn’t have trusted the B.

Wow, was that ever lucky!! After 2, I came up with a list of 13 possibilities (there were only two that I missed, so that was good), and only two had been used before, so that left 11. I went with the 3rd guess I did because it would mostly narrow down the possibilities for a 4th guess. A bit of skill, and a LOT of luck!
