My heart sank when I saw the first 2 greens, looking like a trap. I got lucky and didn’t fall in.
Only 93% of players got this one, which means that people did get caught in the trap.
Nice day for a 3. (Any day is nice for a 3!)

A bad five. I thought, “Oh, that’s not such a bad trap; all I have is SCARE, SNARE, and SNAKE.” Somehow I totally skipped over the H when going through the keyboard, and had to deploy the sleuth word late in the game. Dumb.

Sharp was to check some of the letters in the 7 trap words, and thankfully it ruled out all but 2 words! I got lucky with choosing the correct one.

Thought for a second I had lucked out with DECAF (which is as valid IMHO as, say, LINGO), but no cigar.
With apologies to the ghost of Amy Winehouse, “they tried to make me switch to decaf, I said no, no, no.”

It was. It was offered as one of the 3 other valid word choices I (luckily!) didn’t see before trying the answer.
SHADE → Three letters, all unplaced. Time for a couple comcons to go with them - I’ll keep the letters at the end, just shuffle them up
TREAD → DE?A? or ?EDA?, as -AE ending is right out. I can try another comcon with the latter, so
MEDAL → Shoulda gone with DE?A?. Don’t want to get too jittery right now, so
DECAF → Slangy, I know, and distracted me from that rare “Y as terminal consonant”…
DECAY
A five after getting three letters with the first guess? Still, while I was playing it, it didn’t feel five-like, so I guess that’s a plus.
