SLANT → After a brief
DELAY, we
SALLY forth!
I found eleven possibilities after my starting word. Other than SHOAL, SISAL, and SKOAL, my sleuth word at 2 uniquely identified each of the others. If it had come to that, I’d have done those last three in that order. I think the first was way more likely a solution than the other two combined, so I wasn’t worried.

The Bot loved my word choices, but I really had to force myself on the last attempt, as it seemed like an unlikely word given past answers.

SALLY
Kind of surprised to save par here. I wanted to get the L in place and check for terminal Y. If I’d seen SALSA, I probably would’ve gone with that, so good thing I didn’t.
SALAD and SALSA were the first two words that occurred to me as possibilities after my starting word. Both of them have been solutions already, though.
TOWEL → Two more comcons, and a vowel hunt. Shake 'em all together and get
SLAIN → well, no, I didn’t really “get slain” 'cause I’m still here but it’s nice to place that S. SALAD or SALSA would both require doubling up. Could place the L with SALLY but that’s a little obscure as a verb rather than a proper noun. Change an L for a D and get
SADLY → which, appropriately, wasn’t the right guess.
SALLY
And Scoredle guesses the answer right off the bat from yesterday’s answer, and guesses the answer for all of my subsequent guesses as well. Maybe I should have gone with my instincts on the third guess…

Another member of the SADLY before SALLY club. I did see the answer fairly early, but didn’t think it likely.
The bot says that 11% of hard mode players didn’t guess it, which is a lot of broken streaks, so in that context a 4 isn’t bad.
I was nearly one of them. It was a coin flip, and the wrong choice would have ended my 555 (now 556, barely) streak.
I’m ashamed to even post this one!

The other possibility, of course, was SAPPY. I just couldn’t go out on SAPPY, so I picked SALLY instead. And I really didn’t believe it was the answer. Phew indeed.
