Bad trap. Didn’t treat it seriously enough.

Had to bail on hard mode immediately. After listing out the words I could see, I wanted to check f, c, k, s. I did still have fucks to give so I tried the other vowels first to see if I could keep it clean. Turns out fecks is a word.

With the green LA in my starting word, this was a replay of Wordle 1116 for me. 1116’s solution, BLARE, took one possibility out of play, and it made enough of a difference for me to change my sleuth word on 2 from BRIDE to DRECK. It did the job.

CHALK → Hmm. Is a two possible? Getting that K make it… possible. SKA… but unless it’s SKALD, goes nowhere. KEA… same. KNA…, AKA. I started putting the L at the front and saw
LEAKY → Which meant ?LAKE, which meant
FLAKE
SLAKE was also possible, and woujld have meant a four after that great start. Scoredle sees it, and goes for the answer with its second guess - great deduction, its worst case on that answer with that start was a three.

By the time I fell into the trap, only three plausible words remained. Logic dictated that GLADE or GLAZE would guarantee at worst a five. But today I decided to look at the used words list and found that GLAZE was off the table, allowing me a coin-toss shot at the word I liked better, which was FLAKE.

I used PRIDE as a sleuth to check some of the letters in the available trap words, and it helped but still left 3 choices…got lucky choosing correctly!
Ah, Dumpy’s long lost cousin Dreck! That was a good one for what you were facing. This game can be rather systematic, so part of the fun is coming up with a good sleuth word…I’m not always able to do so, but it’s fun trying.

SCALD, SHALL, SHAWL, and SMALL had already been used. I went with SCALE on 2 because it stood at the intersection of two mini-traps: S(C/H/W)ALE and SCAL(E/P/Y); I figured I’d find which mini-trap I was in, and either win or lose a coin toss on 3. But instead it was the solution.
