THEFT → At least the second T gave me some information - actually, quite a bit since I know the T must go 4th, which pushes the E to the end and if there’s an I in there it’s gotta be

CHUTE, if it was a U, was also possible, so my par putt was 50-50. Scoredle birdies with a 1 in 10-to-14 chip shot, so while the algorithm had a lot of luck, I didn’t exactly cover myself in glory on today’s puzzle.

True story: I was humming “White Christmas” as I began today’s Wordle, then I noticed that yesterday’s randomly-generated starting word was BLACK. I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be funny if the word generator gave me WHITE today?” It didn’t, of course, but why I went for the Q word at three instead of the one that was already in my head, I couldn’t tell you.

(I didn’t say it was an interesting story, just a true one.)
