I had to choose a #2 sleuth. Crony? Grind? I wanted a P and/or an H.
Pinch giving a Green P was lucky; Prism was the first fitting word I thought of.

SPOOL → Getting the P is nice. I’ll try A & E and another WoFcon
PASTE → Starts with P (sounds like a Jeopardy! category). Still no vowels to work with, so I’ll try a word with two of them, and another WoFcon (and not double up on the S, because reasons, though I saw it first)
PURSY → 0 for 5 on the vowels, so I know there’s at least one I. My good luck R must go second, so with I in third, it’s either PRISI or
PRISM
PRISS was actually another possible per Scoredle, and it might not be bogus, so I guess I was on the lucky side of a 50-50 for par. Scoredle misses a 50-50 try on a birdie, because it hadn’t eliminated all the other vowels yet. Seems like a tough word today, I’m guessing very few eagles and birdies.
Of the two words you mention, i think one is a real word that’s likely to be on the wordle “answer list” and the other is an off-beat word that i would absolutely expect wordle to accept as a guess, but I’d be shocked if it were the answer.
Yeah, I was commenting on the quoted part of your post, because it’s the same thing I do frequently myself (including each of the past couple of days). I just made it a Liberty Valance paraphrase because I’ve had Jimmy Stewart on the brain lately. Perhaps I should have made two separate posts…

SLATE
RHINO
SPEED
I spent considerable time choosing the #2 sleuth. Assuming the
word had a 2nd vowel, a 2nd E was most likely, followed by I with
O in a distant 3rd place. N, R, H were the must-have consonants
for the sleuth, but Wordle told me PHIRN (an excellent sleuth) was
not a word. Rhein was probably better than Rhino but I didn’t bother
checking if it were a legal word.
Zero hits on Rhino was lucky; it eliminated all(?) other
possibilities except already-used Speck and off-limits Sexes etc.
