I had no idea the other *atch words had been used. So i decided to check as many letters as o could. I see this as mostly “mastermind”, and feel that hard mode takes all the fun (and much of the skill) out of it.
SPEED → Whiff out of the gate. A wasted E. I seem to recall Wordle has this next follow-up bogus word in its list
LORAN → Sure enough, the acronym is there. Didn’t help much though. T is still around, and three vowels; I cover a lot of what’s left with
TAUTY → Second bogus word in a row. And the second T isn’t wasted; I can almost guarantee it’s in the middle. I is still out there, so I’ll try
BATIK → (I did try batiking once, and didn’t really like it). With none of those letters repeatable, I think it has to be

Ooh, that’s a trap in the making. Almost as bad as the classic ?OUND monster. If I had fallen into it before making my fourth guess, it would be three guesses for five possibles, and that’s too close for comfort. Scoredle falls into the trap on guess number three, and avoids a loss with a 1-in-3 putt on its sixth guess.

Taint had given me two Birdies after the --yy- start. I should have noted
that my original decision was based on a small subset of the possible words
and tried something better. Instead i re-repeated the peculiar Taint. The -y–G
gave me 7 possible words, of which About was already used; Ducat, Groat, Argot
aren’t Wardle words, so the choice was among Abort, Abbot, Afoot.
If there was ANY chance the editor would avoid Abort (politically charged??)
I should pick Abbot BUT Abbot wouldn’t distinguish Afoot/Argot.
We’ve seen 3 non-Wardle words in the few months I’ve been playing so
I took the safety-play.
