BATCH → Wow, quite a start. I’ll try and place the A, and throw in an E with
ABATE → Two placements! But now I have to worry about another vowel. I can guess two of them with
ABOUT → AB?OT, need to double up on the B
ABBOT
I thought I had made a nice, methodical, sensible par that was just about the best possible path to the answer.
Then Scoredle got it in two. Ouch! Of course, that first guess was so close that the second was about a 1-in-6, but still…

It was either ABBOT or ABORT, and I knew it wouldn’t be the latter.
ETA: I just realuzed i used the answer for yesterdays Wordle as my second guess! I hate wasting a guess like that!

ABBOT
What looked on paper to be an excellent opener just made for a rather frustrating start. But our friend the STOAT led me to a tap-in par, so I’ll take that.

With Grift/Drift/Primp already-used only two words occurred to me.
50-50 guess? I thought there was a non-zero chance the editor would reject
Trump as an obscenity, so went with the other word.

With DRIFT and GRIFT having already been used, BRUIT was the only other possibility I could see, and it falls into my ‘no idea whether it’s on the list’ zone. So it was an easy choice.
It’s the bold caps that really puts it over the top. No doubt, no hesitation, it’s FRIDAY!

ABBOT → Well, that’s something. Pushes Y way down on the list of vowels to try. E & I, and two WoFcons, and one of my favorite bogus second words appears
REIST → U is still out there, and with FIRST out, its likely there’s another vowel, and probably not a second I. I think about words with N or L going with U and the known letters, and get nowhere, so I pack it in for the night, wake up, check the computer and it hits me
FRUIT
My duelling obsessions combine to deliver a birdie, on what Scoredle shows to be a tap-in par. Scoredle itself is less lucky - its second guess, despite being one letter off of mine (which was 56/218) forces it to guess from 7 or 8 valid possibles - so it settles for a tap-in par. Lucky day for me!
