MOGUL → Not a bad start. E and three of the remaining WoFcons combine into a word that is too funny not to try
NOSER → At least I got the S. A & T and… do I try B or C? Or a second T?
COAST → Turns out it was neither. With an I… by my own petard…

A methodical par, each guess made things a little bit better. Per Scoredle, looks like I was safe at the end, though a six was still possible. The algorithm didn’t rate my guesses highly, I was out of the top 120 for both my second and third, though the 184 possibilities of the latter were boosted by Scoredle’s love for the terminal S. Scoredle’s final guess for par was a 1-of-5 shot among valid options, so a little luckier than mine.

In retrospect, I wasn’t in danger of failing (MOIST, FOIST, HOIST, JOIST - and JOUST, the only non ‘OI’ choice), so I could have plowed ahead in hard mode. But I failed to notice that BOOST was contraindicated by my previous O placement, making things more complicated than necessary.
The sleuth word did what I needed it to, though; not mad at the par.
