Give mine a try - it hasn’t been used yet, and it’s got four WoFcons. And the fact that repeats are still just an occasional thing keeps up my hope that they’ll use it one of these days.

HOIST → Sets up perfectly for the quintessential good first guess second
SLATE → And… that wasn’t it, but I now have the first three letters. A trap? Try a vowel?
STAGY → Should have tried the last WoFcon. I’ll do that here…
STAND → That’s it. One letter left, and not many to choose from, so
STANK
I’m rather glad I placed the first two letters fairly quickly - today’s solution, minus the second letter, is a pretty vicious little trap. Looks like I was safe after my third guess, but might well have gone the distance. Scoredle falls into a fourth-letter trap with its third guess, and is safe thereafter, but like me bogies the puzzle.

I thought I was heading for another birdie. STANG is now considered an archaic form of the past tense of ‘sting.’ STANK, in my opinion, is heading that way as well, as ‘stunk’ is acceptable as either past participle or simple past tense.
For these reasons, I figured STAND was the obvious choice of the three. But I guess you never know with Wordle.

A good start, but it took me awhile. The NYT says par today was 4.4, which is only slightly high. I think i was more unlucky than messed up.
CRANE
HELPS a solid choice, but still 10 words
AGATE this was about as good as i could do here, because the remaining words have a LOT of different letters. And I’ve reduced it to two, AWAKE and AMAZE.
AMAZE but i picked the wrong one ![]()

STANK → Not a bad start. -AKE ending? But not STAKE, of course. If I try E, I can’t try both R and L. Sir Francis or Jeff? I’ll try the former.
DRAKE → Nope, try the latter.
FLAKE → Another vowel, perhaps? If it’s U… it could be Q…
QUAKE → Nope. And here I sat for a while. [CPW]HAKE? BWAKE, if I go with Elmer Fudd? I even considered KWAKE for a while, which was good as it eventually led me to
AWAKE
Literally the last valid option after I hit the trap. This was the type of word that is almost sure to confound me, as I tend to avoid repeats until late in the guessing. Scoredle says that second guess was 3/34, so it wasn’t that bad. Scoredle itself has a rough one; it does OK with its second and third guesses, then goes for a bogus word (because it covers two other bogus words) with guess #4, then misses a 50-50 to finish with a double bogey. And I thought my solution scheme was being played for a fool!
