Wordperfect margin issue

I’m trying to make an unusual document in Wordperfect, where the default page size is 8.3’x11’, not 8.5’x11’. We can set the margins. That works. We can set the page size. That works. We can set a minor tool to add to the page size on alternating sides, which is what we want (its a print book) - but this only adds some unprintable area, not actually adding to the margin.

Wierdly, we can go through and set every page manually, but given the length (146 pages), we don’t want that.

What version of WordPerfect are you using, and what tools are you using to get these effects? My first impression is that you need to make your page size larger and add a gutter, which will reduce the visible area of the page after binding. Are you actually printing on 8.3" paper?

Wordperfect 11, using the Margin (or page setup) box.

We really need 8.25", but it only handles 8.3 or 8.2.

We want to reduce the size of the page overall, and increase the margin so that one edge (the outer edge) is larger to compensate (we have material actually printed there so we MUST have that space).

Unfortunately, I will not be at the office until Monday, and I don’t have WP at home. What you’re looking for should be available in the “Help” section under “binding.” If you can wait until Monday, I’ll refresh my memory and post again.

I’ll check that out, but the Corel help section has been amazingly useless. It managed to help us once - but only because they’d set up the gui for one option is a weird and counter-intuitive method that made no sense at all.

I’ll just wait till monday.

RE WP 11

You can make the page the exact size you need (ie 8.25 inches). In the page definition applet you can type “8.25” directly into the measurement line. You are not limited to the preset choice increments of “8.2 8.3” etc.

I’m not sure if the additional stuff you’re doing is preventing page flow, but in WP 11 if you set the code for anything it’ll usually keep going in that mode until it meets a change code.

I set the page size definition to 8.25 and in my test just now as I flowed text into that page and subsequent pages it stays at 8.25 as the pages progress.

There are two large updates for WP 11 that need to be appled sequentially. Update 1 and Update 2. Pull these down from the WP support site and install them. You also need your original WP install disk when doing this.
