I was Googling the pronunciation of L’Occitane and came across this forum:
I hung out a bit - seems useful; a good place to ask questions about language and grammar, both within and across languages. Any Dopers use it?
And, by the way, apparently it is “loxitan”…
Yes! I have used it. For proper pronunciation of the name of the subject of my favorite poem, “Al Aaraaf” by Poe. The character’s name is Nesace, taken from the Greek, and I couldn’t figure out what rules of pronunciation it would follow. That was such an erudite discussion, it warmed the cockles of my word-loving little heart. That was in the Greek-language forum.
Also, I went to the Italian-language forum to have translated a sentiment which I wished to express to an Italian-born online friend. They were most gracious and helpful.
I often go to the English-only forum to answer questions. They are mostly posted by ESL students who wish to understand a finer point of English. My finest hour, though, was probably my response to a UK person who had never heard “this will hit him where he lives”. Again, the discussions here can be just unbelievably smart and well-informed.
A lot like the SDMB!
