Why on earth didn’t the Germans start Muller?
South Korea scores! And then it’s offside! And then it’s not! What a bizarre sequence. Viva Mexico!
Spain in 2014, Germany in 2018
2-0 to Korea!
Like Guderian’s Panzers, the Germans get fucked on the counter-attack by beasts from the East!
That Goalie is phenomenal.
I can’t believe that the only thing that stood in the way of Korea advancing was a Swedish victory over Mexico.
Who’d have thought?
I think this means Germany finishes LAST in their group. Wonder what odds you could have gotten on that a month ago?
Who had “Germany ends up in 4th place in their group”? Wow. After Germany came back against Sweden I thought they were going to be on fire and crush South Korea. Wow.
This is the lowest point in German football history since Euro 2000 when they went 0-3 in group stage. Had they fielded their young Confederations Cup winning squad they would have qualified imo.
Law 12 guides what is a foul. Handling the ball is only a foul under Law 12 if it is done “deliberately”. Contrary to what you might think, this language is intended to be contrasted to “intentionally”. Deliberately is supposed to mean that the handling was not what we in America might term “accidental”, not on purpose.
But other fouls (for example kicking, tripping, charging) must be done in a manner which is careless, reckless or uses excessive force. This may, or may not, involve intent. Deliberation isn’t even in the mix.
Still other fouls (for example holding) simply have to be done to be a foul. Presumably, holding requires some form of intent to be holding.
Finally, certain other fouls can just happen without any intent at all. For example, playing dangerously (example: raising a boot into someone else’s face) doesn’t require any intent.
Of course, as SanVito correctly notes, we don’t care about intent when adjudging who gets to restart when the ball goes out of play.
Me too. I have been wrong about almost everything thus far. The only good thing about Germany going out is that I can just enjoy the rest of the matches. And hope that Brazil (if they qualify) destroy Mexico.
No CF. Predictable and unimaginative play. Huge gaps at the back. Deserved to go home early.
Germany out. International Footie is getting VERY competitive. That’s three cycles in a row the holders are out after the group stage. Of course, that group was as close to a “Group of Death” as any in the tournament in my opinion, but still…
Good on the South Koreans to punish Germans for not being German-like in their play.
Top half of the bracket is starting to look quite formidable.
Couldn’t agree more. Klose is missed and his value can’t be understated.
I’m a Germany fan and I couldn’t agree more with you too. Germany hold onto their older stars too long but can we blame them?
If as is likely both Brazil and Switzerland win, goal difference will be the first deciding factor. Brazil are currently 1 goal ahead. The Swiss are likely to crush the Costa Ricans by more goals than Brazil will defeat Serbia. Switzerland then wins the group and plays Mexico while the Brazilians play Sweden.
This will be the most discussed point here after that debacle. And it’s a HUGE debacle, the worst WC Germany ever had. Löw has always been loyal to veteran players who had great merits, but this time it didn’t work out. Müller, Özil, Khedira, Boateng, even Kroos were all out of form this time, and it showed early. The Confed Cup last year showed that we have a roster of talented young players, but he was too chicken to let them play. I wonder if Löw will resign on his own, though the DFB heads gave him a free pass to stay in his position no matter how the game today ended. But this is just to big a catastrophe, I can’t imagine him to carry on after this.
Wonder if Klopp’ll take the job?
With the UEFA Nations Cup starting in September unlike normal service there is a chance to quickly win Silverware.
You know, I’m often very tired of these memes, but these jokes just write themselves this time, so I don’t mind. A friend in my bowling club group posted this:
“Nicht weiterkommen in Russland. Deutsche Tradition seit 1943”
“Not advancing in Russia. German tradition since 1943”
