World Cup appreciation thread(spoilers may lie within)

I’m not a big fottie fan at all but I’m LOVING it. Ireland are doing grand and it looks like we have a very good chance to get through to the 2nd round after the Cameroon V Saudi game.

The other games/teams have kept me interested aswell coz not all of them are as predictable as usual. Portugal and the US for example. France not doing well at all.

Teams I really like to see get out of the 1st round.

England (it’s just more fun when they’re still in it)
USA
and the 2 host nations.

Looks like it’s great laugh over in the Far East at the mo.

Great competition.

It is a pity however that because of the way teams qualify we have teams like Saudi playing at the world cup but are missing teams like Holland.

Amen to that. But hey, it only means Ireland has gained 16 million supporters!

Jimbo, do you think any kinder of Saudi after their performance tonight? They qualified fair and square out of 45 national teams in the Asian confederation, I don’t support them but pushing for another European team at the expense of an Asian tean when the ratio is already something like 15 to 4 seems a tad unfair.

I would agree about Saudi Arabia but they did put in a much more impressive performance in their game against Cameroon. They must have a good coach to have transformed their approach.

The World Cup is truly special; there just isn’t another competition quite like it.

And I’m lovin’ it!

Swagman I probably shouldn’t have singled out a team like I did with Saudi, my bad.

What I mean is that this is the competition that speaks to the world about football. The best teams in the world should be represented on the world stage. It is unfortunate that European teams because of the nature of the game over here have to go through tougher groups and selection processes. A global FA cup type selection would be fairer would be better IMO.

YMMV

Oh and have a look at this program http://www.worldcupwallchart.com absolute class

I love the World Cup. I love watching teams that I’d never usually see, like South Korea (class team!).
