World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth general discussion thread 17 July 2018

Agreed. I did Drustvar last (I think i’ll finish the main questline tonight) but I wish I had done it first. It has been my favorite zone.

I did Tiragarde Sound first, then Drustvar. I think I’ll reverse that on my alts. I have yet to do Stormsong. Hordeside, I just started Naz’mir last night, after finishing Zul’dazar. I seem to have a thing for doing capitals first this xpac…

Anyone else do Vol’dun last and having trouble killing Jakra’zet? I’m 120, ilvl 289, and have done everything else in this expansion with relative ease, but this guy has killed me 5 times so far. I’ve gotten him to like 80-90 percent dead each time, but he just seems unkillable for that last bit.

I’ve read elsewhere this is due to ilvl scaling, the zone simply being harder, etc., but being just a week into the expansion, there’s not a lot of corroboration to these claims. I’m sure I’ll kill him eventually, just wondering if others are experiencing this as well.

Dungeons are very long in this expansion. The three I’ve run all have 5 bosses each and lots of huge trash pulls to clear. With queues running about 45+ minutes, one dungeon run is about all I can fit in to a play session. Leveling seems pretty quick. I’ve probably got about 15 hours of playtime since the expansion dropped and I’m at lvl 114. I like the gear that improves with powerups. So far, I’m pleased with the expansion–just wish the dungeons were quicker.

For anyone who hasn’t gotten there yet, know that your Legendaries lose their special powers when you hit lvl 116. So far, the ilvl and stats are still enough for me to keep wearing mine, but any extra talents or abilities they gave are gone when you get there.

I agree with the dungeons being loooong. Guild did some Mythic spam last night, and by the third or fourth one, I was exhausted, and I’m just DPS. The only one I actively dislike, so far, is the MOTHERLODE! The dungeon title is just a hint of how obnoxious the instance is. Flashing lights everywhere, massive amounts of trash, and bosses that are just kind of a PITA. Unfortunately, three separate pre-raid BiS pieces drop there. Thank goodness I don’t have to worry about epilepsy.

I’ve been doing the war campaign with War Mode on. Sure, it takes a lot longer, but it’s fun, and you get a better feeling that you’re actually at war.

RE: Dungeon queues

One thing I’ve noticed queuing as dps while I quest: if you queue for a specific dungeon rather than the random dungeon finder, it seems to pop a lot faster for some reason. I’ve had a few pop <5mins, and seems like never the 50-60mins that the random finder takes. Maybe this is all law of averages weirdness, but that’s my anecdotal experience.

I was positive I was going to stick with Vengeance DH this time around, but after I hit 120, I just… am not feeling it. At all.

I dusted off my main-for-a-decade Prot Warrior, and I am enjoying that a bit more, so far, though I only have him up to 112. I keep jumping to the DH to work on 7th legion faction (Dark Irons!) but I think I’m going to focus on the Warrior for the nonce.

I’m really enjoying how the dungeons are tuned right now. Heroics are doable but definitely not steamroll. And mythics are pretty unforgiving but definitely doable. Pull two trash packs at once… probably a wipe, ignore a boss mechanic… probably a wipe.

Healed mythic Underrot and Siege of Boralus last night (main spec is enhance, but easier to get groups as resto and I enjoy healing as well). It was challenging and fun experience. I’m sure as we get better gear it’ll get more grindy, but for right now I feel like the dungeons are really in the sweet spot.

I ran my first Heroic the other night… It was definitely NOT a cakewalk. I was a little disappointed that the wow mentality of “Oh, my 315 iLvl makes me too good for messing with the likes of all of you little 305s” is still present, even at the very beginning of an expansion… but hey, it’s WoW, what are you gonna do?

We made it to the end of Underrot, wiped ONCE on the final boss, and then had to relist to get in another DPS, but we nailed it on the next try. Some people just want to be able to steamroll everything, and give up far too easily.

Agreed. This game is at it’s absolute best (for me) when you’re lucky enough to have a nice non-toxic group that constructively works together to over come a difficult challenge.

On that last boss in Underrot, something I didn’t realize on heroic: the light buff not only clears the crap the floor, but also **dispels the debuff **for everyone in the circle. If you don’t make use of that in mythic, you’re simply not going to kill the boss, too much damage going out. It was a lot of fun figuring that out together with my group and implementing it to get the kill.

Nice! I’ll definitely keep that in mind.

I’m a bit confused by azerite armor. Can I “dual spec” the traits on a piece of armor or am I stuck with dps traits when I heal?

I, too, second the motion for a larger default bag. Why the fuck it’s been so small for this long is beyond me. Also, love the vanilla/past exp zones being leveled up and uniform in difficulty finally (as per exp). Wish they’d get a move on with reskinning old mobs/zones. Hm. But, yes, overall, very pleased.

Dinged 120 on my Alliance toon and a few quests from getting the Stormsong loremaster achievement. I’m stuck on the Trisigarde achievement because of that damn horse show quest. What a huge pain in the butt!

Not unless you pick neutral traits that could potentially benefit both specs. I am currently keeping a second set of azerite gear in my bags for my off-spec. It means my off-spec ilvl is slightly lower at the moment, but it lets me optimize the traits I pick.

Note that in the same building as the Void Storage (for Alliance anyway) you can respec the traits for a gold fee.

It’s a new feature. Get used to it. Wait, that’s ESO, not WoW. (Haha.) They’ll probably fix it in like a week.

That was indeed annoying! To me it seemed entirely hinged on how fast you could find the last blimp right before time expired.

After you finish that quest:

You get another quest to get 300 points. I don’t even understand how its possible unless I’m doing something drastically wrong, as I could barely get the first quest

I didn’t even try. Saw the 300, thought NOPE, and moved on.

Apparently, from what I gathered in guild chat the other night, the jumping fences will actually give you some sort of point-buff, then folks are using macros to auto-target and shoot the zeppelins.

Our raid team split into 5-man groups last night and ran heroics (for those that could) or regulars to start gearing up. Tonight we are doing to the same, and might even push mythics if enough folks are near the 320 iLevel. After my quick change from my DH to my warrior, I’m sitting at 310 now.

AH prices are pretty awful, but I might just have to spring for some 350 gear if I can find something reasonable. Consensus seems to be that weapon drop rates are just terrible, so if you can find a decent-quality weapon in the AH for a reasonable price, grab it and it will likely last you a LONG time.

Which would be fine if it weren’t a requirement for the loremaster achievement for Tirisgarde, which is a requirement for the first part of BfA Pathfinder to unlock flying.
